Istanbul Film Festival, formerly (1984-88) International Istanbul Cinema Days and International Istanbul Film Festival, has been organized by the Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation since 1982. It is held in various cinemas every year in April, and the festival also includes two national and international competitions. Kerem Ayan is the director of the festival as of 2015[1].

The event, whose first organization was called "Istanbul Festival" between June 15 and July 15, 1973, was held in the genres of classical music, classical ballet, contemporary dance, opera, traditional music, jazz, pop, cinema, theater and visual arts. After 1986, when film, biennial, theater and jazz events became separate festivals, the music festival gained its own unique identity and took its current name. İKSV, the organizer of the festival, which is a member of the European Festivals Association, also chooses special locations as the venues of the events: The recitals and concerts given in places such as Hagia Eirene Church, Bulgarian Church, Istanbul Archeology Museum, Topkapı Palace, Süreyya Opera are the main attractions of the festival, which attracts the attention of a wide audience. Sabancı International Adana Theater Festival is an international theater event held every year since 2005.

The festival lasts for a month, is open to the participation of various countries and appeals to an average of 20,000 spectators [1]. The "Sakip Sabancı Lifetime Achievement Award" awarded on the first day of the event follows the goal of respecting the masters who contribute to the art of theatre. The weight of the plays staged at the Sabancı University Performance Center is in the productions of the State Theatres. A special feature of the festival is that it starts on World Theater Day. In the festival where 18 plays were staged for a month, performances such as the Italian group Amanto and the Korean National Dance Group were also performed in 2008 [2].
