Medo-Persian defeated by the Greek Empire

The Greek Empire defeated by the Roman Empire.

Roman Empire declined and defeated by The Germanic king Odoacer defeated the Roman Empire in 476 AD. However, his invasion was simply the "straw that broke the camel's back". Rome had been in a state of decline for centuries and had suffered two previous sacks by Germanic tribes.

The German Empire collapsed after World War I in 1918. 

He cries out, "Why doesn't God do something?" [Horrible Sins of the People (Habakkuk 1:1-4) tbd. ] " How can a just God permit such wrong?"

So the prophet Habakkuk gathered up the hurt of Judah and the righteous remnant within it and cried out in perplexity at the seeming silence of God.

1. Developing Faith in Darkness

Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Habakkuk developed his faith more when he was pressured in dark times and when God gave him His Word.

2. God Judges Sin

Galatians 6:7 - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

2 Corinthians 9:6 - But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Luke 6:38 - Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God's chosen people reaped what they sow, what makes you think we cannot?

3. God's ways are higher

Isaiah 55:8

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
