We were all brought to this amazing Earth for many different reasons, one big reason is to care and look after Mother Earth, just as she looks after and provides for us. Humans just don’t always remember how important it is to show love to this place and pitch in. We get so sucked into ourselves and our own lives, we forget about the other things that matter and that give us life. This place is everybody’s home, but not everybody treats it that way. Trashing the ground and rivers / oceans, killing innocent animals for “fun”, cutting down the trees that give us air to breathe, endangered other life forms that give us life as well such as bees, etc. The list goes on. Climate change is also a huge problem that not everyone seems to acknowledge or even believe in. The first step in addressing many of these issues is awareness. Imagining a peaceful world is a difficult thing to imagine, and it shouldn’t be at all. A lot of the issues in this world today are caused by us, humans.

S- I plan on researching many different organizations that are trying to spread awareness of these issues, such as Save the Reef for example. The changes I can make starting now are to stop spitting my gum on the outside ground. Different animals, especially birds will think it’s something else and end up choking and dying. I can also try picking up way more trash I see. That’s another thing I’m going to research, things I can do to really help out in any way possible.
M- I plan to measure my success by doing something helpful and beneficial for this Earth every single day. First I will make a whole list and everyday I will check one or more things off that I completed that day. I’m going to start out slow and with only one thing everyday, then gradually progress from there.
A- The first action I plan on taking is talking more to the people in my life about the importance of this matter. My family and friends both do some things I’m sure they could stop doing that would really help out, so I’l be for sure bringing this matter into their eyes as well. I also can post small rants on twitter about it and use different hashtags to catch different peoples attention.
R- It is realistic because this is a very real thing that happens daily, and has been happening daily. If it continues to get worse or just not be seen as an issue by more people, things could turn for the worst for us and this planet. Everyone should see this as important because we all want to continue living here and be able to see pretty flowers, cute animals, rivers, streams, etc. Those things might perish if things don’t take a step up for the better soon.
T- In the next few weeks, I want to be able to feel like I’ve made a difference. I want to think more carefully and openly about how I can really put things into my hands. I hope to be a lot more educated on certain fields of these issues as well and taking more action into helping out.

Earlier I went on a longer walk around my neighborhood than usual, and came across some new paths. These unfortunately lead to even more trash, so I picked a lot up for about two hours :) Litter can negatively impact a number of things, and when it’s in the community it can even make people feel less safe or even possibly depressed. Environment is key to so many things. By picking it up; you aren’t just beautifying the area, but also potentially saving a harmless little creature’s life :) Many of these litter objects are dangerous to wildlife. Also, if litter gets into waterways, chances are it’ll harm ecosystems as well.

The research I’ve done on this project has really opened my eyes to different things. The littering is something we humans created, and the damage it’s done goes to many different levels. It would only make sense for us to repair that damage, and make an effort to get rid of the concept of littering entirely- but still to this day it’s a big issue. I think everyone should go outside and if they come across any unnecessary trash on the ground to just pick it up instead of ignoring it. Making an actual effort to get out and pick up litter feels really good and knowing you’re doing something good for the planet is the best feeling.

I’ve always felt strongly about environmental issues, I have a strong love for nature and animals. Seeing some of that go away all because of us humans is horrible and it shouldn’t nor does it have to be like that. It isn’t hard to walk a few feet to a trash can or recycle bin to dump your trash. Throwing it on the ground is lazy and incredibly damaging to so many things beyond what you’re probably even aware of.

My goal for this project was reached in some parts, obviously the concept of littering still exists and is still an issue. However, I’m very happy with the research I have made and the new passion for picking up trash on the go. I hope to volunteer at some organizations in the future where I can even go on the beach and collect litter. The people I’ve discussed these issues with into greater detail also are making new efforts to pick up trash and not litter themselves.
