On February 19, 1945, American soldiers make their first strike on the Japanese Islands at Iwo Jima. This battle, also known as Operation Detachment, was fought on small islands, defended by Japanese that had and elaborate network of tunnels, underground passages, and bunkers. Despite the harsh conditions, the United states was able to wipe the Japanese out. One official planted a bomb in a briefcase in a room that Hitler was in. For some odd reason, Hitler happened to move the briefcase to the other side of the room, and when it exploded, Hitler was not fatally injured.
