Introduction To Why I Like This Song

I actually found out about this song through the process of Synergy. One day when i was around 13/14 years old i was playing the video game Need For Speed Most Wanted, when all of a sudden a song came on with an extremely catchy and applicable name 'Opposite of adults' because lets face it thats exactly what i was at that age, driving a car which i wasn't even legally allowed to in real life pretending i was an adult. The songs beat and overall rhythm made me feel ecstatic at the time and it almost made me want to perform better when it came on during a race. Once i had downloaded it on to my Mp3 player i couldn't stop listening to it and the song still remains a classic that will buzz me up before a football game to this present day. I just personally feel that songs like that get temporarily forgotten but when played make you feel alive and bring you closer to your friends as you reconcile all the good times you had when the song used to play.

My Personal Taste

As I've grown older i personally feel that my music taste has gotten more raw and aggressive in the short amount of years that I've listened to certain songs, however i still love listening back and remembering about past times with songs that will never get old. Although through technology i have been given the go ahead to develop my own taste i have never really strayed from socially accepted and loved songs, with a few songs that stray from social convention in my music library. In terms of my favourite genre it really depends on my mood but even today at the age of 17 i still love this song even though i first heard it the best part of 4 years ago on a video game i haven't played for years. I am myself a big believer in feel good music and certainly songs like this will lift anyones mood.

Underlying Meanings

I personally think although i never really considered it at the time the lyrics in this song are extremely meaningful 'Well i once was a kid all i had was a dream' this lyric almost sounds like kids dream big but never really follow through with their dreams perhaps giving the message that actually kids are fed false information about what the real world is like, however if you put your mind to it and are realistic you can achieve it, much like Chiddy Bang although they have been drifting in and out of the industry ever since this song was released. Another lyric that i used to sing along to but didn't take into account from the song was 'Tell mommy I'm sorry but this life is a party, I'm never growing up'. This although i didn't realise it at the time is telling the audience that adulthood isn't fun and that being a child is the best years of your life, although all children want to do is grow up. The addition of 'Tell mommy I'm sorry' also suggests that in some way he's let his mom down maybe subverting her ideas of him getting a normal 9-5 day job, or a reference to the drug lifestyle and culture that comes with rap.
