-Americans wanted control to have access to the Pacific.

-John Quincy Adams got the US most of the control. 

-Fur traders came to the Oregon Country, became known as mountain men, found the "South Pass." 

-Americans started coming to Oregon in the 1830's, missions began to pop up, in the 1840's, there was mass emigration to Oregon, followed "The Oregon Trail".

-The belief in the Manifest Destiny started up, the U.S. set up a boundary with Britain for Oregon.

So he offered to buy the territories, but when Mexico refused, Polk made a plan to get Mexico to give them up, and to get Mexico to make the first move, so starting a war with Mexico would be justified. This map shows where the battles happened, the day they happened, the boundaries set, and the battles won and lost.
