Annotated Bibliography

Baltimore Sun Editorial Board. "Trump’s Ban on Transgender Servicemembers Hurts an Already Vulnerable Population." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2018. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/RUCQSE402741443/OVIC?u=bcps&xid=6e7e0892. Accessed 21 Feb. 2018. Originally published as "Trump’s transgender military ban: Wrong on politics, policy and principle," Baltimore Sun, 26 July 2017.

The article reviews President Donald Trump's executive order ban on the allowance of transgender people being part of the military. The article offers viewpoints on how the ban has raised many issues within the United States. The struggle for equality and human rights from the transgender community is exemplified in this article showing that the executive order has hurt many people and weakened the strength of the American military. The article also states how the ban has little support from not only the democrats, but the republicans as well. Trumps own political party does not support his executive order, causing many distractions within the government. The house of representatives has been spending a lot of time debating this topic instead of other problems that are occurring. The article also brings up the many ethical questions that stemmed from this ban. The question of transgender rights has never been prevalent before this ban was passed.

This article, which was published by the Baltimore Sun in 2017, uses many facts to show how this ban is very controversial in the United States. The article uses very good vocabulary and grammar to get their point across. The author also uses statistics to make the reader understand the topic as well as persuade the reader that what they are trying to say is true. By using statistics it also makes the reader feel as they can trust the author.

This article is very relevant and very useful in providing support for my argument. This is because they use many statistics to show that they are trustable which will strengthen the impact of my argument. It also provides background information on the subject to help me understand exactly how to inform people on why my argument is correct. This article is a very good source that is very helpful in providing support for my argument.

Annotated Bibliography

Malkin, Michelle. "Forget Gun Control. America Needs Fallacy Control." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2018. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/ZUPIIS311205446/OVIC?u=bcps&xid=acc53e72. Accessed 27 Feb. 2018. Originally published as "Forget Gun Control. America Needs Fallacy Control," The Daily Signal, 4 Oct. 2017.

The article is about gun control and how many arguments in favor of the subject are misleading. The author, Michelle Malkin, argues that there are many things that the United States can do in order to prevent shootings. She says that there is no evidence that banning gun transactions prevents crimes, therefore other actions must be taken in order to reduce the amount of gun related crimes in America. Her reasoning behind the other, possibly more effective, actions is for the safety of the children in this country. Many children are effected every day by gun related crimes, directly, yet, not much has been done to stop this from happening. For this reason she believes that more arguments for gun safety should be more rational instead of emotional.

Michelle Malkin is the senior editor of Consecutive Review. While her arguments may be bias, they are still mostly trustable. She uses many statistics and quotes used by others to prove this. Malkin also uses many examples of how her argument is correct and to be trusted through what has been done in the past. By using many different facts, quotes, and examples the audience can see that she is well informed on the topic and can be trusted. This helps her to persuade her readers into agreeing with her.

This article is very useful in helping me to argue my point. It helps me by providing me with a basic understanding of the topic, as well as many facts on why my argument is correct. It also involves viewpoints from other arguments that are opposite of mine as examples of what has not worked in the past, therefore providing me with an insight to the other side. This will help me refute opposing arguments respectfully and factually to better the strength and impact of my argument.
