Peacock Feather are cool!

The coloured iridescent feathers of a male peacock not are actually what they appear to be on the surface. They are in fact all brown! They look the way they do because the feathers contain nanometer scale structures that break up incoming light waves, recombine and reflect them as much richer, more vibrant colours. Scientists think they have a technology that emulates this process to display pictures without chemicals or electrical power. Eventually the technology could replace displays used in smart phones, tablets, TVs and computer screens, with even more striking high definition!

While the Seabreacher can’t go much more than five feet underwater, it does move faster than any dolphin can. Above water it can hit about 60 miles per hour, and below it can go 25 miles per hour. The gecko's hands and feet are covered in tiny hairs that slip between the atoms of the surface it is climbing on. So basically, when the gecko is on the (e.g) glass, it becomes part of the wall. The product is a pair of climbing pads that can support a human’s weight. Each pad is covered with adhesive tiles with saw tooth polymer structures about the width of a human hair that create an adhesion force when they’re pulled on. These are used for climbing up smooth surfaces.

People thought if a elephant can grab an apple from a tree and so can a person, why can’t they make a robotic arm that can learn just like a human or a baby and work exactly the same way! By continually reaching and grabbing objects it works out which muscle to use. The robot memorizes changes in its position through adjustments in pressure within the tubes that feed its artificial muscles .

Fireflies produce chemicals inside a lantern cuticle that efficiently reflects light outward. The cuticle is filled with different nanostructures that minimizes space between the cuticle and the reflective surface. The different surface patterns created by each nanostructure also caused the light to form patterns in different directions, which helps to reduce the amount of light that is reflected internally (as opposed to externally, which is the visible light observers can see). By mimicking the structure of the lantern in an LED, researchers have minimized the amount of light being lost to internal reflection and maximized the amount of light being transmitted this can increase the efficiency by 55%.
