Like water issues, in our everyday life, there are many serious problems. They are hard to solve, hard to confront. They threaten us, scare us.Are we going to do nothing but wait for things to getting worse?NO! Then we watched a short video which showed a lot about starvation. I learnt that food lacking is more serious than I thought. The land is decreasing and the population is increasing. A lot of areas in the world, just like sub-Sahara Africa, it is really unfair, they still cannot be self-sufficient with food. Besides, it’s also a challenge to make sure the food is safe. So, many people die because of the food safety problem. More and more people move into the city cause farm decrease a lot. It’s necessary to find solution to face this terrible situation. In brief, investment technology and policy will play a role, it is not easy to be change.

At last, our group found a video about food safety. It is about rice problem in some countries. Through some investigation and compare, try to show us the horrible influence. We work together fruitfully.

      I think is horrible that humanbings kill other creatures in the  world in order to get things that we want. While the company using the technology to create the real skin and meats without killing an animal, it’s so impressive, and I think we need to spread this technic to the world then we can protect animals from being extinction. 

      The Ted has showed us the starving people in the world, it’s so unfair that our peers in the other place of the world starving while we are wasting our lunch. We set up NGO to help those people, at the meantime I also think our ordinary people need to respect our food and avoid wasting food.

 

The first problem about food safety is the source. Where does the food material come from? Are they safe? The material is the first step, if it is unsafe at the first, not to mention the next steps. But sad to say, most food we used today is under industrial production. Take chicken production for an example, we all know there's many fast food restaurant in the world now, and most they provide hamburgers or hotdogs. And of course these restaurants need lots of chicken. Few days ago, KFC has been caught using chicken that only needs fourty-five days to grow up. The news shocked all of us. We also use pesticides, fertilizers and so much chemical products when growing vegetables. And I suppose that it is certainly unsafe for us eating such food. It's reasonable that people use these way to producting foods. There are too many people in the world. We need to eat and for the business, they need to make profits. So in solving the problem, I think there're lots of thing that depend on the government to do. We need standards to ensure how much chemical products are able to use. We need to enact the law to punish the one who use too much chemical products for money. Otherwise, maybe we can give hope on technology development to create a way that can product safe and healthy food in large output.

 

Secondly, there are also a lot of problems in food processing, like using poor quality raw materials in the food manufacturing process, adding toxic substances, excessive use of food additives, abusing of chemical additives and so on. American likes to eat raw food which may lead to headache and diarrhea. We think it’s not safe. Some food processing industry will add harmful additives to the food in China which cause lots of food safety problems.

Solutions:The first solution we can take is to strengthen the infrastructure construction, for example, we build more subway and high-speed rail to make peoples'life more convenient and green, and bulid more small stores to make people's life walkbal.

Honestly, I know very little about transportation, neither all around the world nor in China. Because of the location, I hardly go outside when I was in Hebei University. Every day I walk or ride bicycle from the dormitory to the teaching building. When I was at home things are similar. As what we saw in the TED this morning, unreasonably urban plan makes the traffic more difficult. People want to live close to the nature and reduce the pollution, so they move away from the centre city and build their house in village. But the long distance between the workplace and home means people need to drive back and forth. And it costs time, money and energy. And accroding to the survey，people who live centralized in the big city like New York City seem to drive less than people who live in the village. And that means the traffic in the big cities are better than the village.

   The urban plan is important to the city's transportation. So secondly,the government need to change their mind when planning the road and the buildings. The surpermarket and the grocery should close to the community,so that people can walk to them and less use cars. For the long distance drive, the road should be directly and convient.

 When government try to solve really complex social problems, the right thing to do is most of the time to create the incentives. government don't plan the details, and people will figure out what to do, how to adapt to this new framework. 

The government can implement two programmes. One is charging congestion fee. Someone came up with the idea that, apart from good public transport, apart from spending money on roads, let's try to charge drivers one or two euros at these bottlenecks. Now, one or two euros, that isn't really a lot of money, I mean compared to parking charges and running costs, etc., so you would probably expect that car drivers wouldn't really react to this fairly small charge.But the results are that one or two euros was enough to make 20 percent of cars disappear from rush hours! And traffic happens to be a nonlinear phenomenon, meaning that once you reach above a certain capacity threshold then congestion starts to increase really, really rapidly. But fortunately, it also works the other way around. If you can reduce traffic even somewhat, then congestion will go down much faster than you might think.

The third point, for humanbeings. People can do a lot of things to ease the problem, improving the awareness of green travel is the most important thing. And many people died or got the condition worse because they can't get timely treatment. So for this problem, we think the government needs to establish classifying system for hospital's level. Some small hospital should be built near the community and provide basic treatment for people. And the big hospital should be built for the surgery or serious disease. Another problem is about the quality of the hospital. The government needs to set up standard for the hospital. And judge the level of the hospital every few years.

The third problem is the side effects of drug. Just like we need to sign the agreement of family members before surgery, the development of medicine is based on countless experiments and deaths. We should maintain a rational mindset to treat with. However, there are still some adverse drug reactions that we need to understand and identify. So, by your experience or habit to take medicine is very unwise, we must ask the dose and the use of number and other information to the doctor, and truthfully told of your health, allergy history, and other information about your body.         Today John helped us to modify our first drafts one by one, I learnt many new word and some structures. And John told us that our ideas and logic are more important than grammar, we should write our idea with a clear logic in the way people can understand is a good essay.

          I think I have benefited immensely after John’s feedback, so I think feedback is important when we write our essay.

There are 5 solutions. First, to take care of the best interests of the most vulnerable groups, and secondly, to ensure that all positions and status are open to all people under fair and equal conditions. We should take care of some of the most vulnerable people, otherwise, they may feel like being deprived of the fundamental rights and being marginalized by the whole society. However, this represents a society that just receives hatred, instead of respect, from everyone. The truth is that a society without consensus will send all of us to even worse situations.

 

The third solution is to offer more job opportunities. Generally speaking, people are employed and paid by work. This is the basic way of living in modern society. Therefore, if we can provide people with more job opportunities, the low-income class will not rely on the social security system, alleviate the income gap, and increase the economic vitality.

 

Fourthly, a fair education system and a new social security system are necessary. Only if people feel more equitable can we live a more harmonious economic life.

 

The last solution we think is raising the awareness of low income people. They can earn more money through education, related institutions can also train low income people to improve their viability.

  Today is a busy day. We woke up early and went to school early. I felt very good because I became increasingly comfortable with the weather here in Riverside. I smile to everyone and greet everyone. And today’s topic  for John’s class is economy. We are allowed to have a brainstorm about other topics before the topic of economy. Our group talked for a long time, and finally we decided to talked about the mental health of college school student.

  As a junior, I had a lot to tell. There are two sophomores and three juniors in our group. We had a heated discussion about what we feel about our university life. Valuable? Meaningless? OR so-so？ The answers are different. Juniors tend to be cherish their university’s life more and have their goals concretely. While sophomores are not very sure about their goals in the future. Different students in different stage have different thoughts. It is amazing.

My partners mainly talked about government policies and social security. In my view, as a college student, we should learn to regulate our emotions, and small problems will converge into big problems. Invest in what you are interested in.

     Education issues become more and more sharp around the world. One problem is that the unbalance distribution of education resources. It means that some children in the poor areas are still have no access to school.It is so horrible if children cannot attend school because without education they can’t express their ideas or even have their own ideas about further things in the world.

      Another issue is the “Global learning crisis” I learnt it from Ted, it describes that although children are studying in school, they cannot study efficiently and in poor performance. So we need to not only increase the number of teachers and schools but also to reinforce the quality of teachers and classes.

 Yesterday by talking with my classmates, we found that college students nowadays are all faced with mental health problems.

Some of them has lighter degree of mental health problem. And they may appear to be low-spirited. Some of them has higher degree of mental health problem. And they may appear to be depressive and aggressive.

  With so many problems of college school students’ mental health around the world, we think is high time for us to make suggestions. As John said we are the new generation and we should take actions to change the world. I think for college students themselves they should improve their ability to resist pressure. Set goals and stick to it instead of worrying about the future every day. Just take actions now and make life  more colorful. 

    The first problem is Chinese college entrance examination is the most important examination to each Chinese student. We studied very hard in the past 12 years, and this is the last station. The higher you test, the better college you can enter.  Everyone will try their best in order to get good grades. So in this time, many students stop all the entertainments and focus on the study. Here comes the problem, your abilities are just judged by the scores, can score represent anything? we suppose not. Students’ ability should be considered by multiple side. We should change the way of examination, and take other parts into considered.

    Second is the college entrance examination has influenced the fate of Chinese students. However, there are regional differences in the college entrance examination. Many areas still hold privileges. Their students often go to a good university with low scores, while others in other areas struggle for many years, and at last, they are just an ordinary university.     The third problem we think is the college entrance exam has brought students a lot of pressure. Students can’t concentrate on the study in class.     The last problem is that In China, college entrance examination is the most important turning point in people's life. It is so important that it almost determines the fate of a man. Most people who have not experienced the college entrance examination are less likely to live better than those who have passed the college exam. Society and companies attach too much importance to education so that many non-graduates can't find work and that causes their inequality income.   I never been to Disneyland before. Therefore, it was a new and excellent experience for me. At first, we were attracted by various landscapes and game sites. We had hard time to decide what to do because there were too many things we can play. And then my friend Carol guided us. When she was a little girl, she had been to disneyland. She said it changed a lot, but she also knew which one is better to play because recently she always played with her grandchildrens in disneyland. 

  At 10.30pm, the most exciting show started acting. It called “Fantasmic” . It was similar to a water dance show. Therefore, when it was showing, a lot of water splattered. Everybody who watched the show were all got wet. Maybe this caused my cold, but I still think this one was the most successful show in disneyland.

 

Homeless people live on the street suffer from the cold, hunger and the threat of crime, these people always lost connections with their family or friends, many suffer from mental illness. The people walking on the street feel less than happy when they see that scene. Last week, I walked on the street and I saw a man was wearing shabby clothes and pushing a cart which makes me feel a little sad though the day is sunny.

 

The most direct way to solve homeless is obviously to increase housing, which needs to rent or buy a house and where the money comes from. If people can afford it, they will not homeless, so it needs government's welfare support. In addition, after the group discussion, we think the government should introduce more affordable housing, and the reform of the purchase order, buy house after rent for an exact time，etc.

We, all students from Hebei University, were a little confused about what the teacher said in the class because she spoke so fast. However, we still learned a lot of things.

The first thing we learned was the way American students attend classes. In their class, teacher alway ask students do they have any questions or any questions about other students opinions. And then students can ask questions freely and talk about their own opinions with freedom. The next thing I learned was the patterns they learn knowledge. Teacher divided the students' reading into five sections and then she asked students to form groups freely to discuss each topic by themselves. After discussions, teacher asked each groups about their ideas related to their topic. All students had their different way and different point of view. Therefore, the result came out that everyone did an excellent job.
