A: Almost all research today is multidisciplinary, and requires collaboration from scientists of different fields. This can range from exploring the quantum nature of our sense of smell, or the using statistical analysis to model animal populations. When it comes to scientists communicating with the public, it is important to remember that as scientists our work is to further the knowledge of the human race as a whole, and by effectively communicating discoveries with the public, we form a more direct link between public benefit from scientific discoveries and the cutting edge of science itself.

B: Science communication skills are important to me as a science student and future scientists. It allows communication between different fields which can offer insights from a different perspective. This could help in making new discoveries more probable as this world is complex and many fields are intertwined. Furthermore, when I understand more about my research topic in light of the grander scheme, it does serve as a motivation too. Lastly, I believe that true understanding of a subject should manifest in the ability of us to convey our field specific ideas to the general public with a basic level of science. If we are unable to, maybe we do not know it all about the subject of interest.

Scientists may also find the solution to their problem from another discipline hence they have to communicate with their peers from different disciplines to understand more about another field.
- Accountability to the public in terms of ethical issues as well as garnering support from the government to fund the research projects. The public ought to know the things that goes into the product they are using (for example) and whether it has been tested on animals. This information should be made transparent so that the public will trust the products that were developed/ the conclusion of a report.

The writer has to have a strong command of scientific lingua and strong interpersonal skills. These may be difficult to accomplish in times when things like conspiracy theories are rife.

As a science student and future scientist, having good science communication skills signifies mastery of our scientific knowledge in our particular area of study. To communicate such complex findings from our studies, we dissect these complex concepts into smaller fragments that would be easier for the general population to understand. Through this, it reinforces our own understandings of our work. As Albert Einstein once said, "If you can't explain it, you simply don't understand it well enough."

It is important to view the research from different perspectives of different disciplines so that the problem or research topic we investigate in can be solved or explored more thoroughly and effectively.
For example, in the filed of bio-engineering, reserach often involves physics, physiology, chemistry and biology. It requires the researchers to have a clear understanding of concepts in perspective scientific fileds, Thus messages needs to be communicated amongst different disciplines to ensure accuracy and better development and improvement of science.

A: I agree that scientists need to communicate their findings and its importance to the general public. Scientists cannot rely on journalists to do the job of communicating their results to the public or to peers from different disciplines. It is the responsibility of a scientist to communicate their results and their importance accurately. A Pew Research Centre study have shown that there is a divergence of opinions between the public and scientists in various topics. The onus lies on the scientist to communicate and to reach a consensus between all members of the society based on scientific findings.

It is also important to communicate to peers from different disciplines since it can spur multidisciplinary research and solve scientific problems. After all, lines between academic disciplines are artificial and man-made. Ideas from one field can be borrowed and applied to another to solve hard problems to the benefit of all humans.

Science communication can also increase interest in science among the general public and this is important as public interest shapes public policy and can help fund many important research into areas that will ultimately benefit the whole of society

Therefore it is important for us as future scientists to be prepared to use such skills to help improve the understanding and perception of science.

I agree that there is a need for scientist to convey and communicate effectively to the public, or to peers from different disciple. This is because as a researcher, your area of focus is very technical and specific and many people tend "tunnel-vision" on the big picture and their application to general public which is crucial to bridge the gap between scientists and the general public. It can also allow scientists to find out where the general public's interest lie and focus on more effective communication.

A: I agree with statement A. Although scientists are credible sources of information from their research and their data, however they are disadvantaged compared to media powerhouses in terms of engaging the public. These media outlets are able to sway opinions and even brainwash the public to their wish. Hence, it is important for scientists to able to communicate with their public with their information and study results, with their research data as their back up. Such scenarios are especially crucial in periods when the public are unsure such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It is up to scientists to determine the causes, the spread and the prevention of the virus, rather than these media outlets, to minimise the losses, the deaths caused by COVID-19.

In addition to that, scientists need to engage with their fellow peers from different disciplines as no branch of sciences is truly alone as all genres of sciences interlope with one another. Research data has to be shared and discussed in order for a greater common good to be achieved. Using COVID-19 as an example again, departments of immunology and pathology has to work together to come out with a vaccine to benefit all of humankind. Imagine a scenario which both departments refuse to work with each other and share their findings, vaccine will be unable to produced and more deaths would occur.

Communicating well with the public is beneficial to both parties as the public can be more informed in decision making processes that involves having some form of scientific knowledge (such as making healthier lifestyle choices based on disease and lifestyle association studies), while scientists can understand and prioritise research processes that are more relevant to the public.
Communicating with peers from other disciplines may also encourage cross collaboration to create innovative solutions to modern problems.
