The fashion industry produces annually between 4 and 5 billion tons of CO₂, which represents between 8% and 10% of global emissions of this gases.

The textile sector is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, much more than the maritime and air transport sectors combined. If this pace continues, greenhouse gas emissions from the fashion sector, this will increase by more than 50% by 2030.

Also, a quarter of the chemical resources produced in the world is used in textiles. According to a Greenpeace report, “Toxic Stitches”, about 80 billion garments are produced each year in the world, the equivalent of a little more than 11 garments per inhabitant each year.

Approximately 70 million barrels of oil are used each year for the garment manufacturing process in the world. Fiber takes 200 years to break down. The water used to produce just one garment is the same amount that a human being drinks between 10 and 20 years of age. In a year, 62 million tons of clothes are produced on the planet due to fast fashion, the fashion of buying, wearing and throwing away.
