1. We can say that Okonkwo is not worthy of pity. Okonkwo is a very confident and even cocky character that takes out his frustrations on his family. Although his success and illustrious past are likable as a character, he has wronged his family and killed Ikemefuna so he is not worthy of pity.
2. Achebe's portrayal of Okonkwo is not relatable to all of humanitu because he is short tempered. He is doomed because he cannot communicate properly within his relationships because they are not particularly like he is. Because his father was such a failure, Okonkwo was driven to be everything his father wasnt. And if his relatives show signs of his father's personality, he gets angered and takes it out on them when really it is only a lack of his own acceptance.
3. Okonkwo is redeemable because we can see that he has a good heart and wants the best for his family however struggles with relating and communicating with them.
4. Okonkwo represents all the a Umofia person should strive to be, he strives to be the best worker and farmer he can be. However, he has his flaws as everything does not work ouot and others do not live up to his expectations. These flaws help the reader understand stuggle in the town and in peoples lives and through Okonkwo's success and failure, Achebe represents Umofia.
5. His positives can make up for his negatives because Okonkwo has a good heart and is only driven to be successful. His negatives are because he expects so much from others and his lack of communication skills. He lacks relation to other people because he feels he need to act a certain way. But this does not make him a bad person and therefore his positives can make up for his negatives.

1) No. Based upon his actions, all of his hardships are his own fault and are a result of his actions towards others.
2) No. Okonkwo's character represents only one aspect of humanity as a whole. His character only represents a small portion of humanity, and not humanity as a whole. In a way Okonkwo is infact doomed because for the rest of his he will have Ikemefuna's death on his hands. However, he still has a chance to become better and stop that mistake from reoccuring. Okonkwo's father did not take away any hope for Okonkwo being a different person because only Okonkwo can change who he is. It's his own fault for becoming who he is.
3) Yes, Okonkwo is redeemable. He still has a chance to change, before he does something worse. If he realizes his wrong doings, he may be able to change his perception of his past, and create a better future.
4) No. Yes, he's a bad representative because he takes everything so seriously, and values strength over everything else. While strength and being strong has a large role in their society, it isn't everything. Achebe did this to show how everyone interprets the laws of the land differently.
5) No. There's no way he can make up for killing Ikemefuna for the reasons he did.

1, We think that Okonkwo can not be depicted as a tragic character or deserves pity because it was his decision making and his actions that got him in to the position that he is in, and you shouldn't feel sorry for him because he hasn't doe anything to deserve pity.
2. We don't think that Achebe's portrayal of Okonkwo is a good representation of all of humanity. We also don't think that he is doomed because he can change, but he just chooses not to, and he has control of his own actions. We also don't think his father took away hope for him because he is his own person and can make his own decisions.
3. He could be redeemed, because his past mistakes don't define him and a lot of the things he has done are acceptable, so he could be redeemed not only by the readers but also by his community members.
4.It is a good idea to view the culture through him because it is what he bases his entire life around and he has experiences in the culture.
5. Maybe to some people because some people are more forgiving, but the negatives outweigh the positives, and he hasn't done a lot of good things for other people, like his family members and community members.

1) We all agree that he doesn't deserve our pity because he made the choice to kill his "son". He was very hypocritical because he said feelings are a weakness but then he grew feelings.
2) Achebes portrayal of Okonkwo is not that of all humanity. Okonkwo is not doomed by his father because were seeing him progressively change. His father did not take away hope from him because he continues to change.
3) Yes, Okonkwo is redeemable because he is still effected by emotional situations.
4) As the story progresses and Okonkwo changes we see him accept more and more of the culture making him a good representative of the culture.
5) it all depends on the person, but to our group the little good that we have seen from okonkwo is not enough to make up for the majority of bad that we've seen. he would have to find a righteous path and stay on it for his sins to begin to become resolved. although it might never be enough for the reader to forget what he has done.
