What happens when you out your faith in God?

Christy-in R.E we learnt about the story of David and Goliath and how he had faith in God

Christy-if you are on technology all the time, it damages your brain. If you meet people in person you can see how they are and what they can do.

How does this make you feel?

Alicia-it makes me feel puzzled because how will you know what you are learning?

Alfie-I feel overwhelmed. You wouldn't get to talk to the teachers every day.

Oscar-I feel excited because I like technology.

Shreyas-sad because it won't be the same as having a human teacher.

Which qualities do you think are the most important for teachers to have?

Mason-fun-loving because your students won't like you if you are not fun.

Alaya-compassionate because it makes you feel safe.

Alicia-I overcame my fear of rollercoasters by staying calm and asking for help.

Daisy-Bluebell-I ask him to help me be strong and brave so I can be a role model for my brother.

Lottie-I ask God to give me love which helps me.

Shreyas-I always God for help.

Daisy-Bluebell-confused, why would you not use a library or shop instead?

Eska-building on what Daisy-Bluebell said, I don't understand why you would go to a vending machine when you could just borrow them from a library for free and return them.

Christy-sad because they are using a lot of power to make the vending machine work when they could go to a library instead.

Mia-I am intrigued and think I would like to make my own book vending machine one day.

What do you think of the 'Lit in Colour' campaign?

Eska-I think it is good to have access to a range of books so you aren't reading the same ones all the time.

Mason-I think it's really good that the publishers donated the books and you can have chance to read different books to the ones you have in class.

Harley-not getting everything now and sometimes having to wait for things.

We discussed crops that you plant throughout the year.

Oscar talked about planting potatoes with Mrs Wilton last year.

What can help them grow?

Ameya-having enough water.

Christy-making sure they have enough sunlight.

Alfie-using a greenhouse if it is not warm enough for them.

Lottie-giving it enough time to grow before you pick it.

Eska-check them. We have a patch to grow vegetables and we have to check if animals like slugs have got to the vegetables. They might need covering with a net to protect them.

Can you think of any examples of a time when you have had to be patient?

Lottie-my brother has joined a football team and I am really happy for him. Now I am having to wait to join mine.

What do you think about Amazon's decision to being everyone back in to the office?

Peter-happy.

Oscar-some people got fed up of being at home and not being able to talk to people during COVID so it might help them.

Ameya-vexxed because if you have a child off school because they are ill or something you need to do it's not fair if you could lose your job over it.

Christy-you might be disconnected from family and friends because you have to spend too much time at work.

Alicia-not all human interactions are good interactions, some people might not be kind.

Eska-depressed as sometimes parents have to miss important things like you getting Star of the Week.

We looked at different examples of human interactions and discussed if they were positive or negative and why.

Do you think human interactions are important and why?

Alaya-yes because life would be boring without them.

Christy-yes because if you spend all of your time inside and on technology you miss out on all of the experiences in the world.

Shreyas-to be kind.

Ameya-if someone is sad, a gift cheers them up.

Christy-it can be a way to connect with others.

Emilia-to celebrate a special day.

Alaya-we need to give gifts on a birthday or at Christmas otherwise there is no point in the days.

How does it make you feel that Keir Stamer has been receiving free gifts?

Oscar-interested in him getting presents but disgusted that he gets them for free.

Ameya-offended, it is unfair that he gets things for free just because of who he is.

Lottie-jealous that we don't get things for free!

Peter-sad and angry.

Harley-angry and jealous, it's not fair that he gets it and we don't.

How do you think giving and receiving gifts makes people feel?

Alaya-happy to receive or give a gift but also jealous if you buy someone a really good gift and you want it too.

Mia-my family always gives each other presents to celebrate new year and I love that tradition.

Eska-thankful that someone wants to give you a gift. Proud when you give someone else a gift and they like it.

Can you think of any other ways of showing gratitude?

Alicia-making pictures and gifts for teachers to show that you are grateful for them.

Karthik-another child helped me to learn English and now I am helping Johan.

Mia-being grateful for the things you have like pets and toys.

Alfie-my dream is to be an artist and I keep practicing my sketching and learning about art so I can get better and achieve this.

Eska-if you really want something to happen you have to keep learning and push yourself to be better.

Ameya-learning all of your times tables to help you be a good mathematician.

Shreyas-I want to be a rock legend on TT Rockstars so I keep practicing then I can get there.

Lottie-I want to be a gymnast so I have to keep trying as some of the moves are tricky and you can get injured.

A 23-year-old British climber, Adriana Brownlee, has become the youngest woman to summit the world's fourteen highest mountains.

How does this make you feel?

Alaya-relived that she managed all of it safely.

Mason-baffled that she has managed to achieve all of that at 23.

Karthik-dumbfounded. If I tried to do that I would give up on the way down and cry.

10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

We asked God to pray for us and everyone around us if they ever find themselves in these situations.

Mia-different religions can pray differently. Mia showed everyone how to sign celebrate Diwali.

Eska-you can pray anywhere at anytime and you don't need to close your eyes to pray.

Mason-prayer can be a way to praise God and say thank you.

Christy-focus on praying to God for the things you need, not just the things you want.

Shreyas-if you are good person who prays for good things, you will get good things.

Daisy-Bluebell-don't pray and just expect something to happen, you also have to work for it.

We finished by recapping and praying using the hand for prayer.

Oscar-it could really hurt someone's feelings.

Christy-people can sometimes retaliate or do the same back.

Eska-everyone has a bucket and when someone bullies you, they are emptying your bucket.

Harley-my mum says if someone bullies you don't hit them back, tell a teacher.

The class looked at Anti-Bullying Week and Odd Socks Day.

How does it make you feel that we are celebrating this?

Shreyas-happy that we are wearing odd socks.

Eska-I think it is good to celebrate everyone for how unique they are.

Christy-I feel encouraged that people will accept me and others.

Ameya-I feel galvanised that I am not like anyone else.

Christy-we have the St James' safety rules which we read out to make sure everyone remembers not to bully.

Alaya-it was all about showing how everyone in the world can have peace.

Karthik-it tells you to give shelter to the children.

Christy-God can protect us and when he gave the ten commandments to Moses, they were to help us have peace.

Emilia finished our worship with a prayer about peace.

Mason-you can lean about history when you discover artefacts and identify them.

Christy-in Y3 we learnt about Mary Anning who discovered fossils which has taught us lots of things about animals.

Mia-I have learnt about mummies which I thought was really interesting.

Alaya-people can feel important and happy when they discover something that no one else knows about.

Harley-it is good to find out new things that you don't already know and sometimes you can get paid well for it.

Alicia-very interested, I want to go there.

Mia-invested as I want to find out more.

Oscar-excited that there are lots of pyramids.

Alfie-interested in the system that detected them as it sounds cool.

How does it make you feel?

Oscar and Peter-it is good that they get prizes.

Alaya-it is important to look after the environment or there would be rubbish everywhere!

Christy-we want to make sure God's world is protected and looked after.

Eska-God gave us the responsibility to look after the world, but some people aren't and climate change is going on. The people should get prizes because they are making God proud with their work.

What is your special place and why is it special to you?

Alfie-my special place is school because all of the teachers here are equally special and I love seeing them every day. 

Christy-my special place is school because I feel safe. I know where I live there are burglars and I don't always feel safe but I know that nobody can get in to school so I feel safe here.

Alaya-my special place is school because you get to learn every day and I love learning interesting facts like about Boudica in history and teeth in science. 

Emilia-Ibiza in Spain. I've been there on holiday twice and it is nice with no rubbish.

Mason-universal studios in America because it is so fun.

Alicia-my special place is Poland because I have relatives there and there is a big water park which is fun.

Johan-India because it is where I was born.

How can we care for the world?

Mason-recycling.

Christy-buying and growing plants because they make oxygen.

How can we raise awareness for this?

Mason-you could make posters to display.

Daisy-Bluebell-the eco group is looking at ways we can look after the world this year.

Oscar demonstrated with some other child what he thinks it means to be included (when children let someone else join their game) and what it means to be not included (when children won't let someone else join their game.)

Alaya-if a girl wants to play football and is allowed to join a team that was all boys before, then she is included.

How does the FA's new diability program make you feel?

Christy-connected because they are trying to include people with a disability in football, not just leaving them out.

Peter-happy.

Emilia-happy because they are inspired and believe they can do anything they want to do.

Mia-interested as my mum and stepdad work with disabled children and adults but I've not heard about them being able to join a football team before. I think it is a great idea.

Miss Smith shared some facts about her family who work in the FA and someone in her family who supports children in a deaf football team using sign language.

The children then did performances in groups of different scenarios where children are left out.

Harley-the donkey who carried Mary so she didn't have to walk.

Alaya-the animals who shared the stable with Mary and Joseph.

Eska-Jesus who was sent down to us.

The children voted to focus on Jesus.

Why was Jesus a hero in the nativity story?

Lottie-he was a miracle who was sent to us. The star shone on him to show he was a miracle.

Christy-maybe he didn't want to come down but because he loved us he did.

Daisy-Bluebell-he took the darkness away and gave us light.

The children worked in prayers to create a prayer thanking God for giving us Jesus and then shared them with the class to finish our worship.

Lottie-Mary because she was chosen to be Jesus' mum and she did it even though it was God's son.

Alaya-Joseph because he was really cool about Jesus not being his actual son.

Emilia-Mary because without her we wouldn't have Jesus.

Daisy-Bluebell-the angel because they delivered the message so that Mary understood what was happening. Without the angel Jesus wouldn't have been with us.

Karthik-Mary and Joseph. Mary brought Jesus to us and he solved all our problems. Joseph looked after Mary and made sure she had Jesus safely and rested.

Harley-I think Mary because she had to look after baby Jesus.

Ameya-the angel because they made sure Mary was prepared for everything that was going to happen.

Eska-the angel because otherwise they might not have called the baby Jesus and wouldn't have known it was God's son. Then God's plan might not have worked.

Oscar-by looking after them.

Mason-if you don't know someone very well and they are on their own, you could go and play with them.

Shreyas-you can ask if they want a hug.

Alaya-not dropping litter and picking it up shows we care for our environment.

Christy-if someone has a disability or special need, you can support them with things they struggle to do.

We looked at the rise in the cost of stamps and how this is affecting how many people are posting Christmas cards.

How does this make you feel?

Lottie-it makes me feel sad because some people don't really get anything and a card would cheer them up.

Mason-I'm confused, why does the cost of stamps keep rising?

Ameya-I feel melancholy because with the cost rising, people can't buy things that make others happy any more.

When do we send cards?

Shreyas-at Christmas.

Alicia-when it is someone's birthday.

Harley-Easter.

Alfie-when someone is ill.

Daisy-Bluebell-when you leave a school or job.

Alaya-when someone moves house.

Ameya-I think it is because God made us and we should reward God by looking after the other things he made.

Mia-yes as you should take care of wildlife like you would take care of yourself.

Mason-I'm in the middle. I think we should look after wildlife but we can't do anything about it if other people hurt them.

How do you feel about the birdwatch event?

Daisy-Bluebell-because they are looking after wildlife and making sure animals don't go extinct.

Oscar-pleased that everyone gets to see birds.

Karthik-excited and thankful that we are watching the birds and taking care of them.

Eska shared that she does the birdwatching event every year and will share with us what she finds this year. Other children said they are interested in doing this at home and will tell their parents about it.

Lord help me today to wear the socks of compassion so that I go where people need me (pretend to pull on socks), the vest of kindness - nice and close to my heart (pretend to put on a vest), the hat of humility so I remember to think of others (pretend to put on a hat), the gloves of gentleness to keep my hands from harm (pretend to put on gloves) and the pyjamas of patience to help me to wait quietly (pretend to put on pyjamas).

Amen.

Most children thought kindness and compassion as that is what Jesus showed to everyone.

Ameya said we need a little bit of all of them to be like Jesus.

Lottie-no, because it ruins communities. They might build on places people like to go like the park.

Christy-I agree with Lottie because they might build on green spaces and ruin animal habitats.

Alfie-no, because it can lead to arguments between people who live there.

Mia-it could cause protests.

Emilia-some people don't have houses and they need them, but animals could lose their houses because of it.

Shreyas-God make the world to have green spaces.

Lottie-we need the trees for oxygen and lots of them will be chopped down if this happens.

Harley-we need green spaces so we can play and have a picnic.

Alfie-I don't think they should be building homes on green land.

How does this make you feel?

Mason-I feel disgusted, because they might take all of the green space and the people building the houses will be tired from all the work.

Daisy-Bluebell-disappointed because the animals will have no home and might become extinct.

Eska-I am shocked because everyone says we should look after the environment, but the government is going against this.

Oscar-to help look after my younger brother.

Karthik-your jobs in school and it is my mum and dad's responsibility to look after my sister as she sleepwalks during the night.

Lottie-it is my responsibility to keep my room clean.

Mason-to take care of my axolotls.

Emilia-the choices I make.

How do you choose the content you want to view online?

Mason-there is a recommended bit at the top and I find videos on there.

Emilia-I look at the video titles and see what catches my eye.

Johan-I like watching dances.

Alaya-I just click on the shorts.

Keith-I look for Avengers on Youtube.

Oscar-I watch a bit of the video and then decide if I want to carry on or not.

How can we make the world more serene?

Alicia-plant more trees if you chop them down.

Christy-don't litter, because animals might eat it.

Lilly-stop deforestation.

Mia-try and stop climate change.

Alaya-stop pollution.

Mason-end wars.

Shreyas-stop taking away green spaces.

Eska-the whole world. We should use democracy and vote.

Oscar-I respectfully disagree. Not everyone should get to choose. People like the Prime Minister, President and King should choose.

Mia-I don't think young children should get to be involved as they might say something silly.

Karthik-worried that people's houses are being destroyed. It makes me feel angry at God for letting this happen.

Lilly-upset that there has been fire, rain and floods.

Shreyas-worries about wildlife being killed and green spaces being destroyed.

What activities could people do that you think would have the biggest impact?

Lilly-yes because you can learn new things and languages but no because because if you don't know the language, there might be a sign that you do not understand.

Oscar-angry, sad and worried that animals could get hurt and they are ruining the mountain.

Mia-angry and shocked. I don't know why people would do that as I love nature.

Harley-disappointed as God made this world and we should look after it.

How can you travel responsibly?

Daisy-Bluebell-by using a bike.

Mason-by electric car.

Harley-on an electric scooter.

We discussed how lots of people do this without even realising.

A number of children mentioned their siblings having long/short hair and this leading to people assuming their gender.

How does it make you feel?

Oscar-sad as people can be offended by people judging them based on what they look like.

Karthik-I think it can really hurt people's feelings which is upsetting for them.

Peter-happy with short hair.

Eska-unkind as the saying is don't judge a book by its cover.

Karthik-I think he may be feeling sad or sleepy because he is rubbing his eyes.

Alaya-they look like they are really enjoying themselves because they are doing a handstand.

Alfie-we don't really know how any of them are feeling. We can see their expressions, but that doesn't always show how a person is feeling on the inside.

Lottie-I think he is a bit sad because he is sitting alone looking down.

Alaya-he looks a bit scared and worried about climbing the tree.

Mia-he looks unsure and confused about what to do.

Lilly-the people at the top of the tree look joyful because they are smiling.

Eska-I think maybe they are concentrating on trying to walk up the tree. You concentrate when you are trying to balance.

Miss Smith discussed how our emotions can change all of the time throughout the day and finished with a prayer.

Karthik-yes, you should be proud of where you come from. I am proud to come from India.

Christy-yes, some people are from different countries and that makes them unique.

Mia-yes, my mum was born in Germany and moved to England but she is still proud to be from Germany.

Mason-it depends because if you were from a country that did something bad like start a war, you wouldn't be proud of it and if you were from a country that did something amazing like discovering something new then you would be very proud.

How do the results of the survey make you feel?

Daisy-Bluebell-confused because I am proud to live in this country.

Mason-I am surprised that not many people are proud to be British.

Mia-it shocked me that so many women say AI as a threat.

Ameya-sometimes your morning routine needs to change for religious beliefs such as fasting for Ramadan.

Eska-it might be easier for people with disabilities to have morning routine so they know what is happening. Other times, like if you are ill it might help to change your routine.

Alfie-routines can change during special celebrations like Easter, Christmas and your birthday.

Emilia-if you don't have a routine, you might be rushing around which doesn't feel good and can make you stressed but in the holidays you don't need the same routine.

What do you think about the breakfast club trial?

Lottie-it makes me feel happy, as nobody will have to worry about rushing or getting their breakfast as they can have it at school.

Daisy-Bluebell-I am interested because I go to breakfast club on a Tuesday. It is my comfort zone and I enjoy getting to do things there.

Lilly-I feel gleeful because I have to wake up early to have breakfast but if you were running late or didn't want to get up early, you could just have it at school.

It’s good to try and memorise bits of the Bible. Using actions can help. This is a prayer Paul said in his letter to the church in Philippi. Y4 learnt the prayer with the actions. “This is my (point to yourself) prayer (praying hands) for you (point outwards). That your (point outwards again) love (make heart with thumbs and first fingers) will grow (move hands apart) more (apart further) and more (and further) and you (point outwards) will see (hands shielding eyes) the difference (both palms upwards in front of you) between good (one thumb up) and bad (other thumb down) and will choose the good (thumb up pushed out to arms length). Amen.”

Think of two people you know and the different emotions they are feeling.

Eska-my cousin is excited for his 21st birthday and my brother is confused because it is his friend's party on the same day and he wants to go to both.

Mia-my friend is happy because it is her birthday and my brother is a mixture of emotions because he is becoming a teenager.

Alfie-my brother was a lot of emotions about starting nursery (sad, angry, happy at the end of the day) and my mum is dizzy because she is working and looking after us all and sometimes my little brother wakes her up and she only has one hour of sleep.

Do you know someone who is poorly or someone who has just achieved something brilliant? Let’s think of them as we pray. “Lord we know that our families and friends have all kinds of things going on. We bring to you those people we know who are sad or worried, especially any who are not well. Help them to know your love and peace. May they find strength and hope in you. And Lord we thank you that some people we know have had exciting news - maybe a new baby or passing exams or just finishing a jigsaw puzzle. Thank you that we can celebrate with them. Help us to be aware today of how people are feeling in our classrooms, on the playground and at home. Amen.” 

Karthik-yes because everyone deserves to have a good life.

Mason-if you have the resources to help them then you should, if you don't then you should help your country.

Mia-if a war is going on then you should try and help both countries so there is peace.

How does this week's story make you feel?

Oscar-anxious because they started arguing.

Alaya-interested as I want to know what will happen now.

Eska-worried as if people help one country the other country will be mad and we don't want another world war.

Eska-yes because music wakes me up at the beginning of the day but some schools might not be able to afford to have music and instruments so it is difficult for them.

Karthik-yes because it makes you more enthusiastic but it depends if you like the singer i.e Taylor Swift.

Mia-I respectfully disagree with Eska because music doesn't have to be bought, it can come from the heart and be created by yourself.

Lilly-I think singing 2 or 3 times a week is enough and sometimes if it is too crazy it can make people go hyper.

Harley-sometimes music can be inappropriate and that shouldn't be used in schools.

Lottie-music can make us happy and more confident and it helps us to use our oracy skills.

How do you feel about Ed Sheeran's letter?Alfie- amazing as we could get to learn an instrument like the violin which would be cool.

Peter-I would like to play the drums.

Mason-I am thankful that they are asking for money for us to do more musical things.

Mason-your job to be tidy but also the bin men to remove your rubbish.

Alaya-us and litter pickers. It is not my job but my neighbour has a litter picker and on a Friday I go out and pick litter in my local area.

Mia-us. We should follow the rule that if you drop something, you should pick it up.

How do you feel about the bins not being collected?

Oscar-worried because the rubbish is building up and it will smell and animals like flies and rats will come.

Karthik-I feel angry that people are having to live with smelly rubbish all around them.

Eska-angry as people are trying to put their rubbish in the bin but there is nowhere for it to go.

Daisy-Bluebell-overwhelmed as I like things neat and tidy.

Christy-I got Star of the Week on my birthday week. I was surprised at first but then I was really happy.

Alicia-I got Star of the Week two weeks in a row which was a big surprise but I felt really proud of myself.

Mason-I'm excited to get my puppy on Friday but I think getting all of the things for it and the training will be tiring.

Alfie-a bad surprise was when my mum was ill and had to spend a month in hospital. It did not feel nice and I was very worried. I was really happy when she came home though.

Mia-a bad surprise was when my friend ran off and I was really upset and worried about her. Luckily her mum found her and she is okay.

Daisy-Bluebell-because we don't want wars which will hurt the Earth.

Oscar-because no-one is safe if we do not have peace.

Alaya-if there isn't peace, lots of people are angry and lives are being risked.

How do people try and build and protect peace today?

Eska-by learning from things that have already happened in the past.

Karthik-to make sure children and grandchildren are protected in the future.

Is being the pope an interesting role?

Ameya-yes, you have to be very brave and have the courage to say what you believe in front of lots of people.

Christy-I think it would be a really interesting job but also nerve-wracking because so many people listen to what you have to say.

Eska-yes because you have to show all of our values and British Values all of the time.

Is there a lot of responsibility involved with being the pope?

Emilia-yes as people look up to and value you.

Meraj-yes as you have to take on lots of responsibility and lead people.

The pope has encourage everyone to be kind and peaceful. How can we show kindness?

Mason-if someone falls over, take them to first aid.

Harley-smile at the Y6 children as they are doing their SATs this week.

Lilly-hold the door open for someone.

Alfie-playing with someone who is on their own.

Daisy-Bluebell-if someone is sad, see if you can cheer them up.

Shreyas-give someone a hug if you think they need it.

Shreyas-that not everyone will be grateful for the things you do but you should still do them.

Alicia-if someone helps you, you should always thank them.

Christy-if you aren't grateful and don't thank people, maybe people will stop doing nice things for you.

Who is wealthy enough to buy a futuristic car? Alicia

I think it is an electric car that doesn't give pollution to the world-Harley

I think it could be a car for a wedding-Emilia

I think it is for when the queen and king do parades and the queen would sit on the big seat-Oscar

Do you think giving can help us feel closer to God?

Yes, if someone was ill and I helped look after them, I hope they would return the favour and look after me when I was ill-Eska

If someone is generous and gives you something, you should be thankful and also give to whoever you can like Jesus would-Shreyas

I think giving someone a present like a toy is nice but giving them your time and help is just as important-Christy

Oscar-it depends on the animal but the right amount of food and water for their needs.

How do you feel about animals having more space?

Daisy-Bluebell-happy as animals are like humans. We need space and so do animals.

Christy-appreciative as I think the animals will be happier with more space.

Meraj-trees as they give us oxygen.

Ameya-cherry blossom trees, they look so pretty.

Lottie-all nature as it helps us to survive.

Lilly-I love autumn when the leaves are orange. I think it is the best season.

Meraj-I appreciate that people who are deaf will be able to understand and communicate.

Lilly-interested as it is really good for those with hearing loss.

Oscar-thankful and happy. It is really good that they are trying so hard and showing others that you can do anything.

Lottie-it is neat and tidy.

Ameya-it is suitable for you and you love it.

Harley-it doesn't matter what your house is like, wherever you live is special to you.

Alaya-anywhere as long as you are with the ones you love.

Daisy-Bluebell-somewhere that is sturdy and waterproof so that it doesn't rain on you.

Oscar-empty somethings not full.

Christy-If you're sad, you are empty. If you don't have any friends, you will be lonely.

Lilly-if you go and sit with someone, the chair next to them isn't empty anymore.

Mia-another word for empty with emotions is emotionless.

We discussed how empty can be a positive and a negative and focussed on it being a positive word.

Ephesians 1:23 ‘Christ fills everything in every way.’ 

Everyone closed their eyes and settled comfortably. The children held their hands out and imagined all of their worries being held there. Then they turned them over and imagined the worries falling out.

Alfie-it is good because if there are driverless taxis you don't need to learn how to drive.

Oscar-not for taxi drivers because they would lose their job and not get paid.

Mason-I'm in the middle because it is a good idea but taxi drivers can tell you all about the area and give you tips.

Daisy-Bluebell-I am unsure because cars don't have eyes and can't see pedestrians. Taxi drivers can make decisions and go different ways if there is a dead end.

Harley-what if they run on petrol and run out of petrol? There is no one to fill it up.

Mia-it is not a good idea because what if it crashes? Also AI taxis might drive past where you actually want to go.

How does this make you feel?

Meraj-I feel excited because there might be even better things in the future.

Eska-I am confused because it says it will make more jobs, but how can it make more jobs if they get rid of all the taxi drivers?

Karthik-I am thankful for the people trying them out so I don't have to.

Shreyas-I am worried because what if they crash? But it would be cool if they work.
