You have the legal right to sell and distribute the original work. Other people or companies cannot take your original thing and distribute it unless they have permission/legal right to. That's where exclusive rights come into play. Exclusive rights in the US code are the five fundamental rights that the bill gives to copyright owners-the exclusive rights of reproduction, adaptation, publication, performance, and display.

If you are commenting, quoting, referencing, teaching, or researching, you do not have to have permission from a copyright holder to use their work in these instances. It is designed to strike a balance between the rights of copyright holders to control and profit from their works and the public interest in allowing certain uses of those works for purposes such as criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.

CC licenses are designed to strike a balance between traditional copyright, which grants exclusive rights to creators, and the desire to encourage the sharing and reuse of creative content. Creative Commons offers a range of licenses that creators can apply to their works. These licenses specify the permissions granted to others when using the work.

If a work is under copyright, there is a long tradition of the author requiring attribution while directly quoting portions of work created by that author.” like I am doing here. I presented a statement by another source but have credited to whom the statement belongs. It’s acknowledging that you are using a copyrighted work, whether crediting a photo in the margins or citing a written work.

This means as a teacher, while I have some leeway with copyrighted material under fair use, it is important to use original work for my students. I should understand my teaching material enough to come up with original ideas and written work.

So, it’s crucial I understand the concept and can teach it to my students. My students need to learn that originality is essential in art. You cannot copy someone else’s work and pass it off as your own.
