Title: Invertebrates. How can we help sea turtles to avoid them having belly pain?
Autorship: Laura García Marín (lgarc239@xtec.cat). I'm a Science teacher who teaches Biology, Maths, Technology, Scientific Culture (in English), laboratory (in English) and CMC in secondary school and baccalaureate.
School: Ateneu Instructiu (Sant Joan Despí).
Context: The project has been implemented in two classes of 1st of ESO students (26 and 29 students), in Biology class.
They work through different PBL anc CLIL activities to achieve a final project, which is a video about a story relating invertebrates with the environment and an environmental issue, the fact that turtles eat plastic bags instead of jellyfish. The kids face the challenge to explain to their families a video showing the characteristics of invertebrates, their groups and this environmental issue.

In this part I will explain my experience making the project with the kids. It's a long project, as it takes 13 sessions, and I'm still doing it with my students, but so far, they are quite engaged, even though it's in English and they don't know many words. What I've found relevant is that in this second year our teachers told us to add vocabulary and a speaking bank for them, which is resulting to be quite useful. Also, the fact that we have a driving question along all the project helps you giving it sense.

Furthermore, I have to say that it is an enriching experience for all of us, the teacher and the students. CLIL and PBL activities work, but I've also found out that the lenght of the activity is a key for its success. For instance, I have an activity of two videos and finally I only did the first video and the last question of the second video (which don't need to be answered by watching it). It was too long. You know, these things that you realize while you're developing your project.

Finally, I have to say that I would like to keep designing new CLIL and PBL activities, as far as possible, for all the subjects I teach my students. As I wrote before, I'm quite serious about this, I already teach other subjects in English, but I really want them to learn as much English as possible, and learn content as funny as possible, two things that are possible through CLIL and PBL activities.
