Sharing our toys/stuff from the past and comparing it to what students currently have

First grade gave an option to students to get participation during PM days, Fridays. STs could either use the nearpod to write, or their white boards.

Possibilities for brain breaks were also given if students participated doing UFLI lessons. This helped motivate those students.

Second grade loved blookets and time to climb to try to engage students.

Forgetful Pirate also helped get the kids excited about UFLI.

Creating/identifying "nonsense" words

-math manipulatives, whether virtual or in-home, always seem to get our kids motivated to participate

Scaffolding and building on skills based on earlier lessons/skills

We use warm-ups that can engage students in the math concepts they are working on.

We use open-ended questioning to scaffold the highest-level math learners and challenge them.

We differentiate the manipulatives we use to accommodate the diverse learning styles of our students.

Pulling students in the afternoon or during team teaching blocks to help assess them.

Getting our kids to be moving, to be interactive, is a way to engage our classrooms.

Have kids BE THE TEACHER! They love being hands-on and love Nearpod. Gamification with time to climb, blookets, kahoots.

High, Medium, Low Groupings to help with ability and fluidity.

Assessing students where they are at with a basic scale: thumbs up, thumbs in the middle, thumbs down. Assessing with exit tickets and gamification.

When planning lessons, make the objectives slide last after we do all the other pieces like content slides, exit ticket, and the alignment.

-Time to Climb is a way to assess students without the pressure of an assessment

-quick checks to see how students are doing throughout the lesson, not just at the end

-having students assess themselves with thumbs up/thumbs down, rating scales, etc.

Making sure that we include options for different learners in our lesson plans that we share out with the team.

Making our lessons bright and friendly to engage them - having pictures for visual learners

Using Nearpod - they can type, write, draw, or speak their answers to questions

Adding in Brainpop videos to engage them and then using the Brainpop follow-up questions

Incorporating peer supports in lessons. Encouraging students to work together heterogeneously.

There were also UFLI games/Pink cat games that you could use as extensions that also make it fun for the students.
