As you know, we have gone to our wider community to offer more clubs to families. We are delighted that Dennis Hayden (Level 3 county coach) has started our table tennis club this week, more students are welcome to sign up via ParentPay.

In addition to this, Turning Pointe Dance Academy are offering a free contemporary Dance taster session (please see flyer above). For any students who attend this, we will share your contact details with the Academy so that they can provide more details about the club they intend to run here at Chailey School. Young people in East Sussex can find information, advice and support on a wide range of health and wellbeing topics at Health for Teens.

Health for Teens offers up-to-date and reliable information on topics that matter to young people. The new online resource, aimed specifically at secondary school-aged young people, covers everything from puberty, relationships, growing up and lifestyle issues like alcohol and vaping.

Health for Teens has contact details for local support services, making it easy for young people to find someone to talk to. Teens can contact the School Health Team directly for advice or refer themselves for support.

The East Sussex School Health Service works with children, young people and families and supports schools through the East Sussex Healthy Schools Programme. Teachers can also use Health for Teens when planning RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) lessons.

Recently, we have been working closely with traffic enforcement, and there has been an increase in drivers receiving fines for illegal parking. This includes parking in restricted zones, across driveways, on footpaths, or in ways that obstruct traffic or access for our neighbours and emergency services.

We ask all families to please plan extra time for drop-off and pick-up, and show courtesy to our local residents. These measures help keep our community safe, respectful, and accessible for everyone.

We have had a brilliantly busy week here at Chailey School. Our rehearsals for the Back to the 80s show have been in full swing, and we cannot wait to showcase it to our community next week. There are still some tickets left and we hope to see as many of you as possible! We have had successful trips to Science Live, and Knepp Estate this week, and I want to thank all the students and staff involved for making them such a good experience.

You may have seen there is lots of conversation happening about young people and smartphones at the moment. I am saddened to say that significant hours of time have been used this week addressing inappropriate TikTok accounts discussing students and staff. We want to ask for families support in reporting accounts and coming forward with useful information. 

 We know that for many young people and their families that there is immense pressure for smart phones to be given when children start secondary school, but we want to draw your attention to the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign which is gaining significant momentum from parents, with some community groups local to Chailey: Smartphone Free Childhood. We also want to remind families that the minimum legal age for Whatsapp, TikTok, and Snapchat is 13 year old. Like all schools, we recommend that parents/carers regularly check their child's phone usage.
