-indo : distribute subjects throughout the week but longer duration.l, mostly had 4 subjects

-phillipines : 8subj 1hr each

-singapore : depends on the credit, 1 credit = 45mins, subjects usually have 2-4 credits. start at 9-10am

Lunch periods

-indo & phillipines : starting from 12 pm to 1 pm (one hour)

Philipines culture shock

• Filipino easy to make friends with just a look and a smile, but in Indonesia they often to avoid eye contact. Therefore they felt hard to start a conversation with Indonesian.

• We deal with it by bringing up topics that we can talk about to get along with them.

Indonesian culture shock

• Even after we know each other long enough, we might still not considering us being a friend (only as an acquaintance).

• Sometimes we feel lonely and one sided.

• How we deal with it is by being brave and start the first move.

When Nina and Diana came to Indonesia, they feel that the weather in Indonesia and Philippine is almost the same. It is a little bit colder here in Malang.

When Nisa went to Lithuania for her student exchange program, she felt initial discomfort due to differing weather between Indonesia and Lithuania. In Lithuania, when it comes to winter, it gets pretty gloomy and there is no sun.

The Philippines’ and Indonesia’s weather is quite the same.

Cultural exchange with a Filipino student revealed several lifestyle differences. Alcohol is commonly consumed during celebrations in the Philippines, but less so in Indonesia due to religious beliefs. Pork is regularly eaten in the Philippines, while mostly avoided in Indonesia also due to majority religion beliefs. Facebook is more popular than Instagram in the Philippines, and WhatsApp is rarely used. Filipino students use a platform called GSpace to communicate with lecturers, unlike Indonesian students who mostly use WhatsApp. Shopee in the Philippines is used mainly for buying goods, while in Indonesia it also includes services like food delivery. Place X is seen as safer by Filipinos, but Indonesians living there are perceived as more judgmental.

Filipino: They usually cannot tolerate the spicy level of Indonesian food. They have to separate Sambal! They don’t like the smell of bayleaf. It is hard to find pork dishes.

- The language barrier is still hard to communicate

- He lived in Java and hard to talk in Madurese in family gathering

- His family talk very fast

- Mom's family live in Jogja

- Even though Jogja is also use Javanese, the accent is different with Flandi who live in East Java

- He should speak polite Javanese, but fladey couldn't speak that kind of Javanese, so he use Indonesian instead

- Join dancing course in Melayu language

- hard to understand lecturer's instructions and difficult to catch up with other local students

- different vocabulary create misunderstanding

- Adel asked the lecturer for further explanation using body gestures

Jaka

- people mainly speak Spanish

- People in Chile speak different Spanish compared to Spain version

- Jaka communicate with Spanish he learned before he came to Chile

- The seller use Chile Spanish and Jaka learned original Spanish, so some phrases cretae different meaning
