The entry requirements for this course are the equivalent minimum of two A levels at grades B or above, three GCSE passes at grade C or above (preferably including English and an Art/Design subject).

You’ll learn a broad range of skills, from research and concept development to implementation, showcase, and branding. In the last year you get to create a final collection with options for 3D or digital outputs, or both.

The foundation entry requirements for foundation year entry are:

• Pass at Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Level 3 or 4)

Portfolio- Presentation of an acceptable portfolio of artwork.

IELTS- All students from non-majority English speaking countries require proof of English language proficiency, equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band.

You’ll practice hand rendering techniques to produce technical drawings, visualising your designs with 2D and 3D technology. They teach you how different fabrics behave and you’ll study business strategy and principles and develop your research, inquiry, and analysis skills.

You can use the common rooms to relax, work out in the 24-hour gym or go to the on-campus cafes. They also have restaurants for you to eat in and the Learning Resources Centres are open 24/7, meaning you can study whenever suits you best.

My second option would be university of west London as I have wanted to go there for a while, it’s quite close to home but also has nice study facilities. Finally, my last option would be university for the creative arts (UCA). The Epsom campus has design, pattern and production studios and there is also specialist sewing areas with technical assistance. I really like this university however it doesn’t feel as welcoming as the other two, it feels more competitive and not social. It is also a lot further away from home which is very unhelpful if I’m travelling to the university a few days a week.

An average models salary is approximately £40,000-£50,000 per year. There is a big difference in model wages depending on your status and the niche you're working in.

Tips

• Taking a gap year is a good time to work and save money as you will spend a lot on supplies in uni.

• Procreate on iPad is good for drawing designs.

• Use in design for portfolio.

• In your portfolio don’t have boring/ plain backgrounds as they judge quite harshly on the presentation.

• She uses half of the mannequin when doing her toile so she doesn’t use as much fabric. Universities like sustainable fashion.

I checked her work again today and she has done a page on heat press and the industrial machine. I love what she did for the backgrounds as it’s not plain white and she also used alot of pictures to show her progress and step by step.

She already had experience sewing with a domestic machine but it’s a lot different to her one so threading it up was quite challenging. At first the bobbin kept getting tangled but we figured out the problem and had to wind the bobbin up again as it wasn’t done properly. She did a straight stitch perfectly with a 1.5 seam allowance and then did a zigzag stitch (3) along the edge. She also remembered to take pictures of the machine and her sample for her book.
