New Years in Armenia differs from it's American counterpart. One of the ways being it lasts several days. Preparation begins weeks in advance for the table. Some buy well above their means because of the belief that "You'll speand the year just the way you've welcomed it" so they make the table look as rich as possible. The reason the preparation starts so far in advance is because shop owners hike the price of the items needed up. Another important tradition is cleaning the house. Up until about the 7th or 8th of January families visit others homes and must sample all the dishes the host has prepared.
