I’m named after my mom, Clarita. The name has been carried on in my family for generations. My other last name, Villalba, indicates the place where my entire family resides: Villavicencio! I was born and raised in Colombia on beautiful, green mountains. Ask me anytime about visiting the Altiplano Colombiano, our cuisine, etc.

I absolutely ADORE studying SOAN because of the richness embedded in all my classes. Decolonizing my thinking and constantly questioning the inequality in my surrondings, it’s such a fulfilling and needed ability in a world where we’re taught to silence our critical thinking skills and the intuition we carry.

As for PEAC, I come from a family that has experienced the effects of armed conflict and violence first-hand in Colombia. I’m really interested in demilitarization and seeing a world that doesn’t rely on the military-industrial complex.

Another area of interest is inequality in higher education! I would love to work in education when I’m older, and help teach other students about decolonizing their thinking and learning more critical race theory and queer theory.

I knew I chose the right course after seeing Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, and bell hooks plastered over the Moodle page. I took this class because my friend Sylvia said such wonderful things about the professor teaching it, and because I am a sucker for anything that lends itself to an intersectional lens (thank you Lorde)!

My wonderful friend Julia introduced my to this insanely hilarious, witty, sociologically minded podcast called Binchtopia. It covers pop culture but filters it through sociological theory, and the hosts are the funniest people alive.

I have been getting into MUNA’s music a lot recently, and I especially love Silk Chiffon because it is a gay anthem and I recently made a gay girl pop playlist. It is such an upbeat, happy, and catchy song.

I love Ayo so so much. They were on Bottoms, which was a phenomenal movie that you much check out. It was essentially Fight Club if it had hotter, gayer people in it. They were also in the Bear which is such a good series!

I live in Miami, and there is this one park there that is so incredibly gorgeous. It is a state park that is home to so many gorgeous mangroves, sand, and beautiful views of the beach. I love biking by here and smelling the fresh air and feeling the sun on my back.

My guilty pleasure of course is Abbott Elementary. I recently started BarrioEd and go into Philly schools a lot, so this show has been hitting different recently. Such AMAZING writers, incredible actors, heart-warming stories.

Please, please take time to educate yourselves on the state of the world and stand against genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza against Palestinians.
