Definition: Student groups conducting outside research on student-identified learning issues (unknowns) to devise one or more solutions or resolutions to problems or dilemmas presented in a realistic story or situation. The PBL process was developed for medical education and has since been broadened in applications for other programs of learning. The process allows for learners to develop skills used for their future practice. It enhances critical appraisal, literature retrieval and encourages ongoing learning within a team environment.

Activities: Review and critique research studies, work in groups/teams to solve a specific open-ended problem, labs. For example, a problem-based learning project could involve students pitching ideas and creating their own business plans to solve a societal need. Students could work independently or in a group to conceptualize, design, and launch their innovative product in front of classmates and community leaders.

article/webpage: https://teaching.cornell.edu/teaching-resources/engaging-students/problem-based-learning

Video Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8lFvPrQf8w

It refers to stimulate learners for creative thinking and think critically by including playful games and visual exercises, such methods really excites the learner’s minds and stimulate their interest in learning. A teacher should always encourage new ideas of his students; it is considered one of the best ways to develop creative ideas and to encourage their freedom in exploring the new language. Good quality innovation in education could make learners learn more in a shorter time and could stimulate learning proficiency. Therefore, it is important to create a good innovation in the teaching process. It is important to support an environment that can motivate learners in their learning process, create activities to solve the problems the learners face. Such a method depends a lot on teachers and how to apply the suitable activity and learning model and ask clever questions that creates creative thinking. The results discovered that the approaches which support the creation of creative and innovative education should focus on systematical progress. These approaches usually grounded on design-based learning, problem - solving, creative thinking, research writing learning, or innovative teaching process could lead to innovative education creatively.

What is Interactive Lecture?

Interactive lectures are classes in which the instructor incorporates engagement triggers and breaks the lecture at least once per class to have students participate in an activity that lets them work directly with the material. The engagement triggers capture and maintain student attention and the interactive lecture techniques allow students to apply what they have learned or give them a context for upcoming lecture material. Newcomers might want to begin with one activity during a class period, but may eventually call upon a blend of various interactive lecture techniques all in one class period. Breaking up the lecture with these techniques not only provides format change to engage students, these activities also allow students to immediately apply content and provide feedback to the instructor on student understanding.

General Strategies:
Pause Procedure
Interactive Lecture Demostrations
Lecture Reaction

Article or Webpage

* https://www.bu.edu/ctl/guides/interactive
-lecturing/
* https://dcs.rutgers.edu/active-learning/teaching-tools/interactive-lecture-strategies
