The figurative language that was used in the sentice "His question caught in my stomach like a fastball." is a simile. I know this because in the sentice it uses the word like. When you use similes you are compering two things. For example Percy is compering the feeling in his stomach to the feeling of a fastball hitting his stomach.

It proves that he was nervous “I looked a Annabeth for help”. He felt like a fastball hit him.

And I think what he meant when he said, “His question caught in my stomach like a fast ball” was showing that he was nervous since he said, “I looked at Annabeth for support”. From what I searched.. it said a fast ball means to throw a pitched ball at a pitcher’s maximum speed. So Percy began became nervous quickly and was probably shocked when Charon asked him a question and assuming that Percy and his friends were dead.

The type of figurative language this is a Simile. It means that Mr.Charon's question hit him out of nowhere and Percy was shocked.A fast ball is when a pitcher throws a ball at maximum speed.Percy got hit with Mr.Charon's question like a fast ball, came out of nowhere and it shocked Percy. Evidence from the text is "I looked at Annabeth for support ,"this shows that Percy was so shocked that he looked at Annabeth for support or a answer because he was so shocked and the question cam fast and unexpected like a fastball.
