I became a boyscout almost 28 years ago and our group leader teached us that we should try to leave the world a little better than we found it. Later I learned that the founder of the scout movement had this idea more than a hundred years ago. I think it is still or even more important by now. If everybody tries at least a little, I believe that we could really do something. And as teachers and global citizens we can do easily make a great effort.

Today I chose the quote by Jane Goodall, because it sums up nicely what I learned today. One should be aware that one can have a great impact on people and hopefully this impact should be positive. The other quote is the motto I try to live by every day. When people are unfriendly, I always try to be extra friendly, because I figure that they probably need it most. Challenging at times but mostly possible! :-)

I think, that a lot of people do not take enough responsibility for the whole world. Everybody has to think about his footprint and act has to follow every day, not only talking about. I know a lot of people they love traveling to enjoy different naturs or beaches. That not enough. Everybody has every day to live to reserve resources as much as possible. So much do not think about the energy or eating tropical fruits while the apples at home to rot . Erasmus gives a chance, to see a country with deeper views than a tourist has a chance to do. We have only a chance, when the rich share with the poor…….

I think that many people only see the problems locally in their own country and do not understand the global context. Wealthy societies try to impose poorer regulations, although they benefit from them beforehand. The world will be a better place if we link the problems of other societies to ours and seek an overarching solution. This can happen on a large scale, but it can also happen on a small scale.

We are already in contact with all sorts of parts of the world, even though we are not always aware of it, so we hear music from different regions, learn about documentaries and news programs about distant countries, communicate via the Internet and consume the widest variety of goods from all Parts of the world, etc. However, not everyone identifies as a citizen of the world. It is important that people find their personal identity about their national identity, and most Europeans, especially younger people, are becoming increasingly aware of their European identity. In addition, to live peacefully around the world, it is important for people to change perspectives, recognize the global perspective and thus understand the connections between their own lives and those of people from all over the world. Then it is possible for the individual to contribute to the common good for the whole world. This is also possible with very small things, for example: Describe your paper from both sides, then not so many trees for paper must be cut down and there is better air for all. Ride environmentally friendly by bike / bus and you contribute to climate protection. Buy fair traded goods to counter exploitation. Communicate with your environment, help other people to quarrel and find solutions, to engage in mutual perspectives and there will be fewer conflicts in the world. So you have to be ready in your own personal environment and according to your possibilities, and they are still so small, to act in the interests of the whole world and take responsibility: THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCALLY.

Today I learned how even our smallest acts can make a huge difference in the world. We are noch only teaching a class full of kids, but the ideas and inspiration we bring in every day, multiply by the factor of their family and friends, our colleagues and peers and everyone who is affected by them.
Today I learned how immensely important it is to teach even the youngest to really appreciate what you have and not take anything for granted.
