REVIEW

I enjoyed reading this book because of the honesty about bullying and what could happen. This topic can not continue to be "sugar-coated" because of its severity and normality, so I liked that Suzanne Phillips didn't hide the truth from her readers. While being very descriptive, like when Cameron was getting sexually harassed, Phillips also left a little room for the reader to imagine. I enjoyed that because I could try to guess what was happening or what was going to take place before the actual text clarified.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUE PRESENT IN THE NOVEL

The psychological issue in this novel was post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Based off of my previous knowledge on PTSD I believed that the issue was accurately depicted through the multiple times of abuse by Rich, the school bully, and Cameron's dad. The book showed just how much experiences like what Cameron faced can affect someone so negatively. Suzanne Phillips showed her audience how it was developed, the fight to get over traumatic experiences, up to Cameron's failure to overcome his past. The book showed everything from start to finish leaving out nothing.

I would recommend this book to other high school students to show them just how far their words and actions towards others go. Also, it shows the kids that are facing similar experiences to Cameron's that they are not alone even if it seems like no one is doing anything. In order to read this book the reader must be mature enough to handle some harsh experiences. This book will open up your eyes just like it did for me.

"Thinks he could flatten his head, until everything Pinon is comes oozing out. Cameron's guts twist painfully. Not because the image of a dead Pinon scares him, but because he feels it like a first breath. New life. His life." page 167

When Cameron feels like the only way to take control of his life is to act on the people that don't help him or hurt him his life is turned upside down. He starts to act based off of how he thinks he should feel. He knows what he is doing is morally wrong but he does not feel like he has any other choice. This made me really think about the other people suffering from PTSD and how they may feel. I thought that they didn't know that what they were doing was wrong, that they just lost their morals, not that they feel that they have to sacrifice their morals to get over what they are feeling inside.
