The people of Singapore were hoping that they could help make Singapore how it was like back then. But not much changed, the BMA lacked the funds and resources to be able to revert Singapore to how it was like before.
-Many people were still struggling after the British tried to help. They were still facing problems, like lack of housing, lack of food, and lack of work. Due to this a lot of people were still rationing and had to desperately look for jobs that would give them a reasonable pay in order for them to survive.
-After the Japanese Occupation many traders joined the trade unions hoping to get better wages and working conditions. These unions organised strikes in which they would stop working to try and push their employers to meet their demands.
-The people were discontented with the amount of change that the British brought.  This resulted in violent actions, such as riots.
-There was also many demands from the people. The first, is a demand for citizenship. People started a petition to try and convince the British to consider granting citizenship to China-born Chinese immigrants that were over the age of 21. The second was a demand for better treatment to local civil servants. Many people were recruited into the civil service by the British. The people here were treated poorly, and unfairly. While the British had high pay the people did not get the same payment causing them to demand a higher pay. The last one is a demand for local political involvement.
