What areas of development do you see showcased in this activity? LARISSA In this activity I see all kinds of development; but I would like to focus on the emotional domain. Playing on a playground is very physical but for me as a parent, a neighbour, community member and teacher, I know that the playground is where A LOT of emotional development happens. Kids have to learn how to share a space, and include peers in games. I have a noticed that a lot of imaginative play also happens on playgrounds. "Lava Monster" is a popular game where there is a lot of chasing but also heightened senses when kids imagine falling into lava and being eaten by a monster. Kids have to "let others" be the leader sometimes. Or feel okay and comfortable with losing or being caught first. This is a small example of emotional growth because it involves emotional regulation and noticing when feelings get too big. All of this is normal for kids and so very important too!

In the image above, I see a group of children at a playground and all of them are showing different developmental domains. Physical, Emotional, and Social. Children are in different areas of the playground, some children are waiting for their turn, and all children are cooperating with others. All children have formed a good relationship with each other.

Looks like some of the children are playing tag, some children are taking turns with the monkey bar wheel.

Other children are sliding

I can tell they are all interacting to each other, playing with each other and taking turns.

I thinks it’s a Social, physical and emotional development. As they are playing with others, waiting for their turn, and with a good balance.

How can i tell, involved, absorbed and interacting?

Physical domain; Involved playing with kids at the playground, social domain; absorbed seeing other kids at the playground, and language/cognitive domain; interacting is being with the kids at the playground and having fun with other kids. They have learn to share space in the playground.

They can climb on the stairs by themself and swing on monkey bars by themself and slide by themself.

They do appear engaged and safe in the playground because they feel comfortable being around with kids they know.

Are children involved, absorbed and interacting with the activity? How can you tell? (Jolene)

The picture that is listed above, there is quite a few children in it, children are interacting with other kids and because there are many of them, it can be that not all are playing together in the playground. In the picture i would say that is it a social domain because they are interacting with one another even if they aren’t communicating, and it is also in emotional domain too because they have ti take turns on each area they are at on the playground.
