Kahoot! is an online platform that provides learning games for students. They can be used as live games or review work that you can assign to your students. While there is an abundance of Kahoots already made by teachers, you can also create your own to target the specific learning goals for your class.

Kahoot is a web-based tool that requires internet access to use. It is compatible with computers, tablets, and smartphones making it accessible across multiple devices.

There is a basic free version of Kahoot as well as multi-levels of the paid version. The free version provides teachers with access to the free content, which is limited. You are able to make your own Kahoots however the questions are limited to multiple choice and true or false. There are various options for those who choose to pay varying in price from $3.99/month - $12.99/month. This gives you access to all the Kahoots, more options for questions, and ways to track your students' data. It also allows you to cocreate Kahoots with other teachers at your school and create a school game space to collect Kahoots specific to your school and their curriculum.

In regard to assessments, Kahoot provides data in the free version that gives you information on what questions each student missed. With the premium version, teachers are able to share the data with other teachers within your school. You can also combine different reports to create one set of data. Using your students data, you can then assign them content that is tailored to what each student needs individually.

Kahoot offers resources in forms of webinars, case studies, blog posts, and certifications to help bring education and help to those who are looking to implement Kahoot into their classroom. These resources will help teachers who have questions about how to incorporate it into their classes while also using the webinars to make sure they are getting and giving the most out of the Kahoot as they can.

As an educator, I use Kahoot pretty frequently in my classroom. In literacy, I will use it as a review of the book that we read as well as a review of spelling and grammar patterns. In math, it has been a great resource for review centers to help gauge where students are at and then using that information to plan lessons based off the data of what students need more exposure to.

Quizlet- Joshua Schecter

Quizlet:

Quizlet is an online tool that can be used to create flashcards, games, and practice tests. Quizlet calls these study sets. It keeps students engaged and can make learning fun. Students can use it to create their own flashcards, games and other learning tools. Teachers are also able to create different interactive tools to meet the needs of their students. You can use images, audio, diagrams, and text.

Accessibility:

Quizlet is available on almost any device. This includes mobile devices such as Android and iOS. A benefit of this is that it can be used almost anywhere. You do not have to have a computer in front of you it is something that can be accessed on a smartphone.

You are also able to print out study sets from Quizlet. This will allow students who do not have access to electronic devices to benefit from Quizlet.

Features:

Teachers can create different study sets for different lessons or units. You also have the capability to create different classes.

There are many different study sets already available and accessible without creating your own.

When you have a study set students can go through the virtual flashcards or questions. These can be presented with text, audio, visuals, diagrams or any combination thereof. Students can practice these questions and then have the opportunity to take a more formal assessment on them. The students progress information is available both to themselves, and the teacher.

AI:

Something I found very interesting was the incorporation of AI into quizlet. Now students or teachers can take their notes, papers, or any written document, put it into Quizlet and it will create a full study set using AI. I feel that this is a quick way to use materials that you already have or have access to. Quizlet also has a feature that is called AI tutor where you type in something that you are looking to learn about and it will try and behave as a virtual tutor.

Assessment:

Quizlet is useful as an assessment tool because both the student and teacher are able to see how well the student is doing on each study set. It can be setup to be multiple choice questions or written answer. Study sets can include text, audio, and visuals depending upon your needs or the needs of your students. Quizlet also tracks the students performance over time. This will give you an idea of how the students learning is progressing. This gives you some insight into whether or not the way you are presenting the material to the student is working or not. It allows you to adjust your material and provide new strategies. The grading of assessments or tests is done automatically allowing both students and teachers to get real time feedback. Study sets can be created on any topic of your choosing. They can be customized, created by AI, or chosen from many different ones that have already been created.

Cost:

Quizlet is free. However, there is a paid version that some useful features are locked behind. The cost of Quizlet plus is $7.99 a month or $35.99 a year. Sadly I think they locked some of the more useful features behind this pay wall.

Conclusion:

Prior to this assignment I had never heard of Quizlet. There are many great things about the platform. Having access to a vast amount of already created study sets, being able to create your own, tracking student progress, playing interactive learning games, and incorporating both visual and auditory material into your lessons. Quizlet allows you to create classrooms and study sets for particular topics and units. It also now has the ability to use AI to take notes or any other material and turn it into a study set that will allow your students to learn, and allow the teacher to keep track of their learning progress.

Sadly, upon further research I have found that recently they have locked much of the more useful features behind a pay wall. While it is still has many things to offer. I will let you be the judge whether or not it is worth the cost of for the more premium features.

Resources for learning about Quizlet:

The Quizlet website has some useful information about accessing and using its services. However, the best place that I found for instructions on the available services is YouTube.com. Quizlet has provided a good set of videos detailing the services available and detailed instructions on how to use them.
