How this Surrogate War was Part of the Cold War

The Vietnam war was a surrogate war part of the larger cold war. The Vietnam war wasn’t a war directly between the US and the USSR but they both supported different sides. The USSR supported the north and communism and the US supported the south; anti-communist. So, the Vietnam war was one of the many ways the US and the USSR competed in the Cold War. Today for the US the Vietnam War affected the US economy by inflation because President did not want to pay for the War. It also weakened the US military's confidence and the military switched from drafting to volunteer only.
