All we have to do is spend the same amount of time on each one. For example, when assigning a research paper let students use computers to look up information, but then make them use pen and paper to actually write it. I have attached a link that discusses the issue.

As many other people have stated you need balance. If you are teaching students how to do an outline on a computer spend equal amount of time with teaching them how to do an outline on paper. This will alert students that sometimes technology isn't always on hand for them to use.

I think that as long as we focus on balancing the relationship between technology and pen and paper assignments this will never be an issue. I do think that writing neatly is important so maybe as teachers we should focus on the ways to ensure students are confident with writing an assignment.

While I believe students should write, draft, and edit their papers on a computer, I understand the importance of using paper and pencil. I think students should have a writing journal where they are given assignments and topics to write about daily. This will create a balance between writing on paper and writing on a computer.
