Some opponents may contend that Hamilton is a better choice for Mrs. Olinski's academic team rather than Julian because he is smart and a bad boy. According to the story she likes the charm. This, however, is a false fact that shouldn't be believed in. In fact, Julian is a better choice because he has a very smart and courteous personality even though he seems very isolated. He has friends, even if it's limited. According to chapter 5 on page 125 it states, "She looked around the room and saw the four children, Ethan, Noah, Nadia, and Julian sitting at a table on the far side of the room. They were talking among themselves and drinking tea." This explains that the other three members of the group already have good ties with Julian and get along with him, while on the other hand, Hamilton has a rather bad and rude reputation with them. In addition, not only do they have good ties with him and are friends, Julian is courteous like the others by the way he sits down and drinks tea with all of them. Like it states on chapter 5 page 125, "Mrs. Olinski thought, when people come to tea, they are courteous . She thought, I believe in courtesy". This explains that The Souls are courteous including Julian, which in fact invited them for tea. A final reason, why Hamilton is not suited for the part of the four member, is when Mrs. Olinski said herself that he would be on the team. It states on page 125, the last paragraph, " That is the exact moment she knew that Julian Singh would be the forth member of her team...". Clearly then, Julian is the most suited for the part. Hamilton is smart, but Julian has something more than his intelligence, he is courteous, unselfish, and a very nice person overall.

Introduction

Mrs. Olinski, a pressured, handicapped teacher, is in charge of putting a team of four together for a spelling bee. She has three out of four of the members decided, but who should be the last one? A lonely-looking student with a dignified English accent named Julian, or a bad, but smart, leader-like student that actually looks like he has friends named Hamilton? Well, Julian is actually the better choice because he is smart, and his friends are the three others in his potential teammates, so it would be really convenient to have him along with the other three since they would get along pretty well.

After narrowing down Mrs. Olinski's choices of either having Julian Singh or Hamilton Knapp as her last team member, I think that Julian Singh would be the best choice. Julian Singh is already a part of The Souls, a group name created by Nadia Diamondstein. The group includes Nadia Diamndstein, Julian Singh, Ethan Potter, and Noah Gershom. From the time Julian first approached the three of them, they became The Souls, who got along very well with each other. On page 125, it states that, "They did not interrupt one another... There were nods and smiles and obvious pleasure in one another's company." Because they were very courteous and understanding to each other, I assume that with Julian in Mrs. Olinski's group, the team would do well in the contest.

Another reason for why Julian is a better choice than Hamilton is because Julian had journeyed more of the good than the bad. On page 157, Mr. Singh, Julian's father, talks with Mrs. Olinski about how he and Julian had learned about kindness. He says to Mrs. Olinski, "We have found much kindness when we journeyed on the ship." Because they found kindness, Julian learned to be a very kind boy, unlike Hamilton, who was very inconsiderate. I assume that the reason why Hamilton is very inconsiderate is because he's mainly journeyed in school, where most of students' personalities change because they follow inconsiderate ideas that they see others doing. Because Hamilton probably has seen many inconsiderate students at his school, that is most likely the reason for why he is also inconsiderate

Overall, the question of whether or not to appoint Julian as one of the members of the is still very debatable. After reviewing the article, I strongly believe that Julian is the best choice for the last member of the team. One reasons for supporting my claim is that Julian is already very close to the other members of the team and is very smart, but is not a 'bad boy', like Hamilton. My analysis of this issue has left me with little doubt that Julian is the best member for the team since he would fit in perfectly.
