Andrea Andrade

Amy Doty

English 1010

16 July 2018

Literacy Narrative

I'm going to be truthful I absolutely hate writing and reading. Growing up reading and writing were not my best strength, I really struggled with them the most and maybe it was because I grew up only speaking Spanish. I was in ELL all through elementary school, had an IEP manger all through middle school and half of high school. I was embarrassed that I grew up with special help because for every test, quiz, or assignment, there was always someone who came in and took all the kids out, so they can have the item read to them. I kind of felt dumb.

I was always lost, and when it came up to writing "freely" I could never think of anything to write about and for reading I was always zoning out. In fact, the only book I fell in love with was The Child Called It by Dave Pelzer and that was only one because I could kind of relate to it. I really wished I could be able to pick up a book and get lost in the words or that can write endless stories and have people read it and enjoy it. I always thought that I had better use of time like working, cleaning the house like my parents send me too, washing clothes. Anything but reading or writing.

Unlike many people I wasn't courage to write nor read because I was being courage to learn more about female duties. I was taught that when father came home I had to take his shoes and socks off, then I had to serve him food and bring the food to him, and I would spend my time cooking hot tortillas almost burning all my fingertips. Which is why I received, the help I needed. Once the years past my father was starting to let loosen up and was not demanding much of me, he started to realize that school was becoming more of an importing matter. But by that time, I had gotten lazy and didn’t put much effort.

For most of my English classes that wanted me to write about my life I was always going straight to point and I always wondering why they want to know about my life it was boring it was repetition each morning. I honestly felt that my teachers hated me because I would only type up papers of 300 words nothing more nothing less. I guess the only real papers that was more than 300 was my scholarship essay. Only because I really need them and that when I started seeking help. I still don't understand most stuff about English like run-on-sentences, fragments, grammar, and other stuff. Which that to me is pathetic and embarrassing. But anyways lesson learned, and I'll try to have an open mind about writing and reading even though I still hate it. Hopefully with the help I ask for I can end up really loving reading and writing.
