In January the emperor of Japan began talks of an attack on Pearl Harbor as he felt that if he drove them out of the pacific that they will not be able to contain Japan. 
During the attacks the last warning from Japan was sent to Pearl Harbor while they were being bombed. The first wave of attacks was started at 0775 Hawaiian time. 
After the attack President Roosevelt asks congress for a declaration of war, and Admiral Kimmel, and GEN. Short were relieved of their duties.

After Standard Oil was broken up it turned into many other smaller businesses like Exxon, Amoco, and chevron.
