         <description><![CDATA[<div>Now that implantation has occurred, hCG hormone is released. Human chorionic gonadotropin (<strong>hCG</strong>) is a hormone produced by the placenta after implantation. This hormone is what will show a woman is pregnant as it will show up in her blood and urine after the implanted embryo releases the hormone. Also maintains the corpus luteum, so that it may release progesterone to thicken the cervix and maintain the endometrium for the embryo.</div>]]></description>

Through the umbilical cord they transfer nutrients, hormones, and wastes between fetus and mother.</div>]]></description>
