The pertussis vaccine was introduced in 1914, but due to our technology now you are able to provide your children with three different vaccinations at once with Dtap vaccine which was introduced in 1948. Get Dtap for your children, it will not only protect them from Pertussis but also Diphtheria and Tetanus so vaccination is extra beneficial and easier.

In India, DTP vaccine was introduced in routine immunization in 1978, resulting in substantial decline in incidence in the pediatric populations. Prior to the vaccine, India reported 200,932 cases and 106 deaths in the year 1970. During the year 1987 after the vaccine was introduced, the reported incidence was about 163,000 cases, but in 2011 where more parents were informed and well aware of the Dtap vaccine's existence; there was a decline of about 75%.

A Bacteria called Bordetella pertussis (in the Alcaligenaceae family) is responsible for the illness of babies and adults. But preparing your immune system early can protect you and your surroundings. The bacterium Bordetella pertussis infects the respiratory tract and prevents natural defense systems from removing germs. This causes mucus accumulation, which leads to continual coughing and sometimes vomiting. The bacterium also populates the breathing tubes in the lung, inflaming and narrowing them.

There are three stages:

Catarrhal Stage- start out like those of a common cold, with a runny nose or congestion, sneezing, and a mild cough or mild fever.

Paroxysmal Stage- After 1-2 weeks, the cough worsens due to thick mucus in the airways. This can result in bursts of rapid coughing. Patients may turn blue from a lack of oxygen.

Convalescent stage- appear very ill, vomit following cough fits, and appear exhausted. Infants younger than 12 months of age may not have the strength to have a whoop. In infants, cough may be minimal or absent, with the main symptom being temporary pauses in breathing.

The germ that causes whooping cough spreads easily through coughing or sneezing while in close contact with others. It is airborne. Whooping cough is known to spread within households. Babies often catch it from siblings, parents, grandparents, and other members of their extended family. Instead of fearing the entire family's safety, getting vaccines saves lives and relationships.
