It was a normal work day like any other. We realized that the city was changing, all those great emblematic buildings of the city were being built.

We were walking down the street and we saw a newspaper, it was the year 1932. The city was becoming what we know today, overcoming the great depression that the world experienced in 1929. At that time, there were high unemployment rates, and the conditions that the workers had to face were very hard.

Then we arrived in front of a huge building. Suddenly, a bell rang and we realized that they were giving the call for lunch. The sounds of construction work ceased, and all the men put down their tools, and started to get their food. With curiosity, we saw how several men instead of leaving the construction began to climb the structure. 

We moved away a bit to get a better look. We saw eleven men sitting quietly for lunch on the beam of the building under construction. Later a man arrived with a large bag, prepared a huge camera, took a glass plate out of the bag, and took a picture of them. At that moment, the eleven workers got up and went to have lunch at their traditional places. 

This photograph would be published in the New York Herald Tribune newspaper and would become one of the most viral in the history of photography. It has been attributed to Lewis Hine and Charles Ebbet, but in reality today it is still not known for sure who took it and it is still considered anonymous, perhaps commissioned by some advertising agency to promote the building.

At this time, the parents were very strict. When they were dating they could hold hands in public but never hug. Once the girl was conquered and her suitor declared his love for her, the courtship had to have the family permission to take the woman bride for a walk, accompany her to mass or go to the movies, and then return home and leave her at the door.
