Bruno's mother ensures Pavel that she'll say that she was the one to clean the wound, and this made me have a revelation: Jewish doctors weren't allowed to treat non-Jewish patients in that time period. This made me feel very surprised and impressed that the author included this detail.

(i did cry a couple times!!!) I think the point of view was intriguing and the idea that no one but eva and miriam had a background story because nobody cared about anything else but survival. However, i found that the book so far did not include a lot of Historical context and could have used more depth and detail.

I disliked how the story is moving because its moveing kind of slowly. Overall I think its a great book and I would recomend it to others.

Alfrons is a 17 year old German boy of hitlers youth who rised up the ranks very quickly. Helen is a adult jewish girl who was put throught many concentration camps and nearly died before Russian troops ended the war. Both characters have friends but most of them die, either to dying fighting in the war or dyng in extermination camps or by starvation. Both of them seem nice to their friends and I think if I met them I could be friends with either of them.

In chapter 15 Schmuel was working at Brunos house and they were talking to each other. Bruno offered Schmuel food and later he got caught. Schmuel told the man that he was Brunos friend but Bruno denied. Later on Bruno went to Schmuel and saw that his eye was bruised and apologized for earlier. On page 177 it says "Do you know this boy repeated kotler, have you Benn talking to the prisoners". This quote shows the jewish people and non jewish people were seperated from each other and even talking to one another is fround upon.

"The Boy In The Striped Pajamas"

Page 156-182

For the first time in weeks, the rain forbid Bruno and Shmuel from meeting. Bruno is forced to stay indoors and his sister

Gretel comes to see what the boy is up to. Bruno accidentally lets it slip that he's been talking to somebody, but he

makes the quick save of claiming Shmuel as an imaginary friend. Lieutenant Kotler brings Shmuel to Bruno's house to

clean glasses and the two boys are excited to see each other. Bruno offers Shmuel some food, which Shmuel hesitantly

takes, and Lieutenant Kotler catches him. Bruno denies knowing Shmuel and Shmuel is punished for it. Bruno doesn't

see his friend for a few days, but when he sees Shmuel again he apologizes profusely. One quote from the text: "Do you

know this boy?" and "Have you been talking to the prisoners?" -page 177. This is significant because it demonstrates how

even interaction between Jewish and non-Jewish people was frowned upon, which connects to othering and isolation.

Parallel Journeys

After the war, everyone in Germany was struggling. Alfons could not leave his town and was forced to work. Helen finally finds her daughter again but it isn't the same. Both of them struggle to adjust to their new lives. "It would be many months before I could bring myself to believe the truth of the holocaust." This shows people couldn't believe what had happened. This connect with what we know about trying to keep the killing a secret.
