Gatsby's search for the unobtainable

I think that Gatsby's search is a reflection of how people can get caught up in their idea of perfection and past feelings. I believe he is telling us that it is dangerous to do so and that in doing so we will be stuck in an infinite journey to never reach our destination. This can be seen on the final page in the book when Nick says, "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us... we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past(Fitzgerald 180). The story of Chirs Mccandless relates to contrasts to Gatsby's search in interesting ways. Chris left everything behind in a search for "truth" while Gatsby started off unsatisfied with what he had and left for a search to gain more. They both become entranced in an idea, truth in Chris's case, and an idea of a moment in the past in Gatsby's case. Some could argue that Chris reached his destination but both of them were consumed by their search for it.
