Brexit - From 2023 British visitors will need to register online and pay in advance for an 'Etias' visa (approximately £7 for a 3 year permit) UK tourists are now allowed to bring duty free alcohol and tobacco through to the UK from any European destination. Along with this; UK tourists are no longer able to use the EU fast-track passport control and custom lanes, which means they must all wait in the longer queues despite if they have the new English passport or the no longer used European passport. This also means that the immigration procedures in airports will take a longer amount of time to pass through since passports must be stamped upon arrival into the EU. The duration of a tourist stay will also be affected if they wish to stay in the EU for longer than 90 days, if a tourist wishes to stay longer than the 90 days allowed; they will require a VISA. Since leaving the EU, UK passport holders will require a VISA when wanting to work within the EU, tour operators are now employing more EU-based staff as resort reps.

In the future, this may impact the Travel and Tourism industry as it may ruin the EU travel economy since the prices are rising - people tend to opt for a domestic holiday. However, this is beneficial to the UK economy since the money is staying within the country.
When the money is staying within the country, it can be used to look after the UK's countrysides, protect coastlines or improve and upgrade parks and attractions.

This is the cost of living crisis. When travelling abroad, UK residents have seen for themselves the drop in value for the UK currency (GBP) compared to the USD in November, which were almost equal at the lowest the GBP has been against the USD in 20 years. The GBP also dropped in European countries therefore travelling overseas was simply too expensive for UK residents since they lack the disposable income due to inflation. This has also lead to an increase in fuel prices for airlines in the UK as aviation fuel is traded in USD.

With the cost of living crisis and inflation currently, people must spend their money on essentials rather than luxuries, this means they lack disposable income. Disposable income is when people have enough money to buy their essentials and book holidays, however since eveything has recently gone up in price; people can no longer afford this and it means that there are less sales in the UK travel and hospitality sector for organisations such as hotels. It also means that since people are having to prioritise bills rather than holidays, there will be much less passengers flying from the UK airports. This will also mean a rise in domestic holidays since it works out cheaper for a UK break with luxuries than a 'cheap' holiday abroad.

The older generation are living longer and this is because they are receiving better healthcare. This means that they are still feeling healthy enough to go on holidays, especially cruises and coach holidays - they can still afford this since this generation have a more disposable income. The older generation also known as the grey market, are an important value in the travel industry since they are almost the only customers who can book longer holidays such as world cruises. Cruises now appeal to a much younger audience with the average customer booking a cruise holiday age is 40-45, this has dropped significantly than previous years. In comparison, the younger generation are struggling to buy homes since the cost of living and inflation currently however this means that this generation also have a disposable income where they can spend this money on holidays and breaks. Since package holidays have been around for such a long time (since the 1950's) and although they're still popular, people are wanting to do something different, people may be taking more shorter holidays out of their year and do something such as a city break away.

There has been a slight decrease in the popularity of packaged holidays in recent years, since they have been around for such a long time (1950's) people are almost getting bored of them. This means that although there hasnt been a huge drop in numbers, agencies may begin to lose business though packaged holidays. However, people now prefer to try different things to have many experiences so different types of holidays are seeing a rise in profits and customer numbers overall.

Airport scanners nowadays are much more efficient than they were 20 years ago. 3D Baggage scanners are hoping to have been introduced by 2024 in all airports, these are much more technologically advanced than the scanners currently as they can thoroughly check baggage for any suspicious and prohibited items. They are also hoping that these scanners can significantly reduce queue times. Airports also have online check in and facial recognition passport checking.
Hotels are also being upgraded with new technology too, hotel chains such as Radisson Blu and Hilton Hotels allow you to view your room before booking with a 360 room tour to ensure this is the most suitable room for you.

80% of people are booking their holidays online however this has had a negative impact on high street stores and many of them are having to shut down permanently due to lack of customers. This could have a negative impact for the older generation who prefer to book a holiday in store with an agent as they are less comfortable booking a holiday online. Nobody can ever guarantee that technology will work 100% of the time and since it is so relied on, when it fails; it can cause huge delays and issues. It also has problems with the older generation since they naturally can't deal with it as well as the younger generations and it can be overwhelming and cause upset.

Travel companies in the UK who plan to sell holidays overseas to customers in the UK, must hold an ATOL license. Each travel company has to understand the laws in each country to ensure that they are complying with them correctly, however some countries may have tighter rules and regulations than other countries regarding health and safety, employment rights and consumer protection, these all must be followed.
Although minimum wage may increase; everything else raises in price and therefore employees will find themselves always wanting a raise. When the minimum wage rises, this will especially affect small businesses who aren't earning as much and will struggle to afford the prices of each employee.
Companies who purchase soft drinks which contain sugar must now pay a portion of the price extra to pay a sugar tax, this was put into place to encourage people to drink healthier soft drinks to act as a barrier to obesity. The only drinks which are exempt from this is Fruit Juices as they already contain the sugar.

Airlines rely on fossil fuels which aren't good for the environment, they want airlines to use a more renewable source of energy to operate their aircrafts. In 2001, United Airlines were the first to have a flight take off when using a renewable source of energy. Aircraft companies are currently using the Dreamliner, it is more fuel efficient and quieter, they are hoping this will reduce their carbon footprint as the Dreamliner becomes more popular.
Passengers also nowadays like to choose a more environmentally friendly airline, this puts pressure on airlines to become more sustainable as they will be losing customers, business and profit when passengers are choosing to book through a different airline. Popular destinations such as the maldives are much more at risk from rising sea levels and passengers want to make a difference to protect these destinations

Passengers are becoming more aware of the carbon footprint that air travel has on the environment passengers are choosing to book their holidays through a more environmentally friendly airline. Due to climate change, destinations such as the Maldives, popular for its beaches and sea activities, are at risk of soon being flooded out by rising sea levels. Airlines are one of the biggest factors in the world with such a big carbon footprint and therefore contribute to climate change. Since Covid-19 began to disappear, air travel has become much more popular since people were stuck in their houses in lockdowns and want a break. If airlines dont begin to change their ways to become more environmentally friendly and sustainable, climate change will keep getting worse at rapid speeds.
