The 70s were turbulent with the rise of the National Front and the backlash they faced from the Anti-Nazi League and the Socialist Worker’s Party.
It was also a decade which saw people choosing to rebel and break away from the gentle, domestic and materialistic way of life.
Moreover, it was a decade of change: contraception became free of charge for women in 1974 and the Sex Discrimination Act in 1975 made it illegal for employers to discriminate based on gender in a number of industries.
From 1978 to 1979, the UK had a period of intense strike, however, the rate of unemployment is low.

'The population fights for more workers’ rights, better working conditions, and better pay meant some industries were plagued by workers’ strikes in the 1970s.
And the augmentation of 4% of unemployment.
But the positive fact is that in 70s we noticed a shift from labor and services to technology-based jobs.

Also the negative point is that the discrimination of women hasn't changed and the top jobs for women were secretaries, teachers, bookkeepers, waitresses and nurses. They were no radical change between womens and males jobs.

The British counter-culture or underground scene developed during the mid 1960s,^[1] and was linked to the hippie and subculture of the United States. Its primary focus was around Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill in London. It generated its own magazines and newspapers, bands, clubs and alternative lifestyle, associated with cannabis and LSD use and a strong socio-political revolutionary agenda to create an alternative society.
Key underground (community) bands of the time who often performed at benefit gigs for various worthy causes included Pink Floyd (when they still had Syd Barrett), Soft Machine, Hawkwind, The Deviants (featuring Mick Farren), and Pink Fairies; other key people included, in the late '60s, Marc Bolan, who would leave "the Grove" to find fame with T. Rex, and his partner Steve Peregrin Took, who remained in Ladbroke Grove and continued to perform benefit gigs in the anti-commercial ethos of the UK underground.

Within Portobello Road stood the Mountain Grill, a greasy spoon cafe, which in the late 1960s and early 1970s was frequented by several UK underground artists, including Hawkwind and the Pink Fairies.^[2] In 1974 Hawkwind released an album titled Hall Of The Mountain Grill and Steve Peregrin Took wrote Ballad of the Mountain Grill (aka Flophouse Blues)

In the 70's, new fashion styles came about, the most notable ones being mainstream fashion, which was all about individuality, and underground fashion, which was about protest and self-expression. Mainstream fashion was characterized by androgynous colourful clothes such as bell-bottoms and platform shoes as well as midi skirts and maxi dresses. Mainstream hairstyles were "the shag", dreadlocks and afros. Underground fashion was characterized by darker coloured clothes like leather jackets and combat boots. The hairstyles reflected the punk mentality too: liberty spikes and mohawks were spiked haircuts that were very popular in punk fashion.

In 1973, under the Conservative Party, the England arrived in the CEE.

A lot of rock bands, have influenced music in this period such as the Rolling Stones (famous rock'n'roll group and considered the largest of its kind formed in 1963) and in the punk rock genre we can quote The Clash (formed in 1976 )
