1. Basic Core Beliefs

I firmly believe in a safe environment where students can learn and thrive. A secure and nurturing atmosphere is essential for students to feel comfortable and confident in their educational journey. In addition to a safe environment, having adequate resources and services to support our students' learning needs. Access to up-to-date materials, technology, and educational tools is vital for their academic success.

Moreover, it is important to have teachers who are trained and qualified. Well-prepared and passionate educators play a crucial role in inspiring and motivating students to achieve their full potential. Furthermore, there is a strong connection between the school and the community served. I firmly believe that a school should be an integral part of the community, fostering a sense of belonging and unity. Actively engage with community members, organizations, and local businesses to create meaningful partnerships that enhance learning opportunities for students.

2. The School Counselor's Role

The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to serve as a voice for students, ensuring that their rights, needs, and well-being are prioritized within the educational system. In this context, advocacy encompasses a wide range of activities to empower and support students throughout their academic journey. One fundamental aspect of being an advocate is actively listening to students and valuing their perspectives. School counselors encourage open communication by creating a safe and inclusive environment, enabling students to express their concerns, fears, and aspirations. Through this empathetic approach, counselors can better understand the unique challenges faced by each student and tailor their advocacy efforts accordingly.

3. Ethical Standards

Ethical standards play a fundamental role in guiding the work of school counselors, as they provide a framework for ensuring the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. These standards are designed to safeguard the rights and well-being of students and to maintain trust within the counseling relationship.

One key principle that guides our ethical standards is confidentiality. School counselors are committed to respecting the privacy of students and maintaining the confidentiality of information shared during counseling sessions unless there is a legal or ethical obligation to disclose certain information (such as when there is a risk of harm to the student or others). This commitment helps build a safe and trusting environment where students feel comfortable discussing their concerns and seeking guidance.

4. Personal Philosophy

My vision is to advocate for the well-being and success of all students, ensuring that their individual needs are met while respecting their rights, privacy, and confidentiality.

Additionally, I am actively developing my competence in B-PF 2, which requires a thorough understanding of educational systems, legal issues, policies, research, and trends in education.  I am confident that I will continue to grow and demonstrate a strong understanding of educational systems and related matters. B-PF 4. Applying school counseling professional standards and competencies was another strong area, and I hope to continue to grow. B-PF 6. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of cultural, social, and environmental influences on student success and opportunities
