Change of Heart

When I look at this past semester and examine how I feel about God, His presence in my life, and how my perspective on Him has changed, I am completely shocked by this change of heart. After every election, I realized just how close God really is to me. All throughout my life, I was taught that God is far up in Heaven helping people from above, that maybe be semi-true but, that doesn't mean that God isn't near you at all times. God is omnipresent! He is there for me not only when I pray to Him, or confess at church, He is next to me as I step into a classroom as I'm having fun with my friend, or even having deep conversations with my family members. In Tattoos on the Heart, Father Greg showed God to the different gang members by offering them a job, this brought God closer to the people at Homeboy Industries. By bringing God closer to the people of Homeboy Industries, they were able to see that God really does love them no matter what crazy sins (everyone a sinner) they thought that they had committed didn't matter in the eyes of God because we are all His children. When we finally see that God is closer to us then we could ever imagine, that's when we feel stronger, happier, and more confident in ourselves because He is right next to us helping us fight every single battle life throws at us.

Napoleon Hill once said, "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." Over a span of 6 months, I have grown to be a different person when it comes to my faith and me as a person in general. I now know what I value most, what I hold on to, and how to set goals for myself in a personal matter. As a person, I have grown to be more open with my emotions and experiences because when they are shared often people can relate to me or even learn from my mistakes. Also, when doing these kinds of presentations or writing assignments I find that I keep a lot of things inside of myself because I feel like if I do that then there will be no room left for judgment or embarrassment. So now, I have come to accept that perfection isn't real and that nobody has any room to judge each other because we all make mistakes, but the important thing is to learn from them. Just like in "The Case for Christ" where the main character was searching for some truth in the existence of Christ through facts, and he had to grow and learn that some things cannot be completely supported by facts alone. He had to learn to use both his heart and his head for himself, his family, and his wife.

As I think about my future I always picture myself helping people. My dream profession is a human rights lawyer. My choice in the profession has a lot to do with my faith. Growing up I have always heard of personal ministries, and other subjects relating to personal mission work to better your relationship with Christ. I see myself helping others by standing up for their rights. I believe that everyone, no matter race, financial situations, or living conditions deserve the same rights and luxuries as everyone else. Not one person on this planet is perfect, and so if we're not perfect our planet is definitely not perfect. But, when we show each other love, compassion, and respect so many problems that we are facing now could be eliminated. Such as the refugee crisis going on all around the world, if we were to show some sympathy for these people, who have fled their own countries for safety in another, we could find some way to support and help them out. Forcing them to leave or denying them support, shelter, and care, will not solve the problem. What will, is us coming together as one community to help support our brothers and sisters all around the world. This could be by helping your neighbor, giving someone a job when they are finding it hard to get one, and even sending donations to people who need it in different countries.
