With the advancement in technology in recent years, there is wide range of innovative recreation exerted a substantial bearing on our society. Experts are sharply divided on the discussion of various types of entertainment, which are watching television, playing computer games and reading books. In my personal pointview, I subcribe to a view that reading books is of tremedous benefit compared to others for a multitude of reasons.
First and foremost, thanks to books, children are generally equipped with a trustworthy source of knowledge. Books have to undergo editorial stages before being published widely. Furthermore, the vocabulary used in a book is invariably checked and selected by professional authors and editors so that it can suit children's age. Secondly, books may hone several helpful knowledge and skills, which would support children at school. Books assist cognitive development which refers to intelligence, reasoning, language development, and information processing. Unlike the television, contents can be shared without being censored, and we can obviously see that children are easily addicted to television, that can harm their eyes.
To add further credence to my assertion, it is undeniable that reading books far outweigh playing games for following reasons. According to the furthest research reported by several scientists, children who play games for more than 1 hour a day had worse literacy skills, decreased ability to use expressive language and name objects. This result is in stark contrast to children who read books regularly. On the other hand, activities that benefit different parts of the body of the brain, stimulating the imagination such as reading books, documents, etc will be more suitable for a preschooler than sitting in front of a game device screen.
To conclude, I find myself in agreement with the opinion that children preferentially read books instead of watching TV or playing video games for the beneficial of a child growth.
