Shot with a focal length of 55m to be close to the subject but still pick up the variety of textural depth in the subject (creases, shadows and highlights on the bin bag) which allows for a wide range of black in the image.

Image was a .ARW file so I could edit it in Photoshop's Camera RAW to increase the texture among other things.

Subject is a stack of canteen trays with a focal length of 28mm to frame the whole stack in the image. The horizontal lines of green (the subject) and black (the shadows) convey the textural, corrugated feeling of the trays. The white highlights show the sheen of the subject, which also elevates the scratches.

Thinking how to frame the subject and the overall composition of the photograph before shooting. For this image, that involved keeping the subject at the left of the frame, creating negative space to the right. Also, thinking about the rule of thirds, the subject is placed along an imaginary line/grid which breaks the image up in to three sections vertically and three sections horizontally (nine sections total).
