Like I don't understand why we need tests right now, it almost feels like we're getting more tests than we did last year, well at least in such a short span of time.

Distance learning has been a struggle. I have to balance school and family because as a older sibling I have to help around the house and make sure I am understanding what is going on in the house. If I am being honest, I haven't really learned much in my classes because I am always confused and lost in the assignments. If I could change one thing it is that teachers could be more understanding and give us reasonable work in order for some students to not feel confused like I am.

distance learning is very tedious and I feel like what we're doing for the most part has no weight or not to the degree which is had the previous school year. If I can change one thing it'll be a higher emphasis and more importantly more time given to self education. I think that'll help with participation because now the student who doesn't feel in control of anything will now be given the chance to explore what drives them, not like they didn't have that opportunity before, time is there if you make it but for many people, I being one of them, the first step is the hardest, so a push is needed. I believe making that change will not immediately give results, but it will give results in the long term because over time Dominguez will be known as that school that lets you find your passion and once that is imbibed in its culture, it'll take a whole lot to take that away.

From my experience, distance learning at Dominguez High School has been challenging especially with the ways in how I cope with stress along with more personal problems regarding COVID-19. Although, distance learning can sometimes be enjoyable when life isn't hitting me with problems and it provides comfort at home since my health is not put at risk along with many others. If I could change one thing to make this experience more healthy for me as a human being, it would be to pray and trust God more so that I can have tranquility and not get side-tracked.

My experience has been good in terms with some of my classes but it's mainly because my teachers are thinking more about us than what the school wants them to do. They'll be very engaging and have like little warm ups before we start work and those warm ups consist with solving a riddle or just have a conversation with each other about how our day went or whatnot. The only downside that there is for online classes to me is having to constantly look at a computer screen, it makes me feel ill and a lot of times I'll start getting headaches. And the fact that I have to look at a computer for most of my day plus on the weekends when I have work so it doesn't exactly help the case. The only thing I can think that would make this more healthier for us if we were to have at least an hour and a half of being active in a class during each block period and then for the last 30 minutes to be asynchronous.

Distance learning has been a new and stressful concept for me to grasp. There is less one-on-one interaction between me and the teacher, so I have to rely on the teacher having to respond to emails, which sometimes they may or may not do. There is less interaction between myself and other students. Breakout rooms don't feel like they help, as most students have both their camera and mic off. It's very easy to be behind in all your work when you lack time-management skills. It's also stressful because of connection issues that many students face, and the amount of teachers that don't believe it because of "connection issues" being used as an excuse to ditch class. It's required for most teachers for students to show up with their face, and if they choose not to, they get sent out of the class. I'm a victim of this because though my face was partially showing to the point you were able to see that I was there, but I got sent to the waiting room regardless. When readmitted back into the meeting, I asked if they can re-explain the instructions they provided. They said that they don't owe it to me to re-explain the instructions because I could not follow simple instructions. There is a lack of communication between students and instructors, which contribute to the reason why most students have failing grades and low attendance. I believe that if we were given a 5-10 minute break during block period instruction time, it can limit the stress given to us. It allows us time to use the bathroom and have a small snack and beverage.

I don't know how distance learning is in other schools but in this school always the same. Distance learning has become like muscle memory. My brain has shut off. I wouldn't say the school isn't trying though. I can tell the teachers are trying their best to keep us students to be interactive and learn. I would change the way lessons are taught. Not all teachers are interactive with students and makes the lessons more difficult to learn because they pile too much information in one go. I need more interaction in order to feel like I'm being productive.

Since August, it has been an emotional rollercoaster doing the distance learning at Dominguez High school. Throughout this learning distance, I have experienced good things but also bad things. For instance, my mental health got worse and it was pretty scary for me, I had to learn how to cope with my anxiety and stress. The online learning distance experience can be pretty stressful at times because teachers assign so much work and a little bit of time to turn it in on the same day. Some teachers just assigned a bunch of work for one day to be turned in. It is not fair because most teachers don’t think how hard it can be to manage our time when we have other classes to do plus or outside time responsibilities. Most of the time I spend all day trying to finish my homework on time and don’t get the time to take care of myself because of the time limit teachers put on their assignments. If I could change something to make this experience more healthy it would be taking my mental health as my first priority because without being healthy and stable I would be struggling right now. I wish I had been prepared for this online experience.

My experience with distance learning has been very stressful to my mental health because of the pressure to pump out the same if not more work than when we were in purpose. It is also hard having class for six hours a day and still having to do the work for that class and study for more hours after that. The things that I would change would be to give a less strenuous work load and schedule that would be considerate to the work that is being assigned to the students. I also do not think that virtual learning should be mixed with block schedule because I think that many students think how I think as in that we usually like a certain few classes and when those classes are split it makes me not want to go on some days because I don't enjoy that class as much. In conclusion I have been in a very bad headspace during the pandemic and virtual learning, mostly because my grades are the worst they've ever been (i never failed a class before the pandemic) so I have been stressed with the pressure.

Distance learning at Dominguez is a mix of Zoom and Google meet in order to attend classes. Teachers explored a variety of websites so that we can submit work and do basic assignments. I feel that in order for it to feel more healthy we need to have more activities and a different routine. Almost everyday its the same routine. Wake up, zoom, homework, and repeat next day. No variety. By activities I feel like there should be like group projects. Maybe school activities that can be done following COVID guidelines.

The questions are: What is it like to do Distance Learning at Dominguez High School? If you could change one thing to make this experience more healthy for you as a human being what would it be? - What its like to be Distance Learning is a major change for us students or maybe just me because I myself was not ready for an online experience with teachers but I suspected/expected this was gonna end up happening in the coming months of last year. Being said Distance Learning has effected my way of learning in both a good and bad way.

First I will start with bad way which is doing homework on computer most of the day usually I would hand write my homework on paper 🚨(SIDE NOTE although I sometimes lazy of writing on paper nowadays)🚨 but not anymore now its just use Google - Docs, Slides, Drive, Forms, and Nearpod. Distance Learning has also made me more lazy of doing homework back then it was ¨get this done before the time limit given or day shown¨ and do not do the assignment if it is boring.

Now the good way Distance learning has effected me which is in a way of having to get used to Distance Learning with typing notes or having to do research normally it would be teachers saying ¨Students we will be using History or Science school books in class¨ having to do research in a class can get messy but now that students have computers we tend to look up what was going during World War 2, American Revolutionary War, Civil War, when was Math introduced, and when was the first time it snowed in a state from California or from another state. I´m in my Junior year of high school which changed me after two or so years I now do my homework which catch's up to me on my rear view mirror like a car and to be honest having to do homework is one of my top priorities now instead of video games or being on my phone all day

If I could change one thing to make this experience more healthy for myself&student it would be having to walk to school like I would casually do on a normal school day, making sure to not stress out a lot from homework or projects, and the ONE thing that I would personally change is the having to be on computer all day and how I stare at the screen for almost half of the day.

Distance learning at Dominguez High School can sometimes be very challenging and stressful. The amount of work that we receive is sometimes excessive and it can be something that takes a great tole on our mental stability. For those of us who are taking AP classes, we have to stress about doing all of the work and still attending extra classes to help us do better on the exam. Part of the issue might be my fault because I choose to take on extra classes like those AP Readiness ones at UCLA but I still believe that the work may sometimes be excessive. This is not always the situations but, more often that not, it is. I would ask for teachers to not give as much work or at least give us a reasonable amount of time to turn it in. The minimal change in the amount of work or in the amount of time given to complete assignments would be something that really helps.
