This book is about a girl who starts going to new school and how she went about making friends.  I liked the clear examples of what it means to be a good friend and how sometimes being a good friend to one person might hurt someone else and how you have to use your own judgement of right and wrong.
I would use this book to illustrate narrative writing as well as lessons on cooperation and working together to accomplish your goals.

This book is about a boy who tattles all the time about every little thing. He irritates not only the other children but the adults in his life as well.  He is cursed with Tattle Tongue and must learn the rules about when it is appropriate to tattle and tell on someone.

This book is about a man who goes around to different farms teaching the slaves a song.  The song is actually directions on where to go to escape slavery.
This book would fit well in a unit on life in America pre- Civil War.
