My 2 introduction days at Epping Forest College were both very informal, i learnt about what i will be doing during the course, met my teacher and done some productive work. For the work we (the class) were put into groups of 4 and were sent out to create a 2-3 min long snapchat story exploring the college, while doing we was asked to make it interesting, once we all had returned to the classroom we all presented our "Masterpiece" and gave each other feedback on what was good and how we could improve, Day 2 of the introduction gave our groups time to reflect on our feedback and redo the snapchat story while at the same time making the improvements necessary, to then again present our work to the class, which was going well until our groups snapchat decided to malfunction and not let us load the story we had had created. Overall great 2 days at the college meeting new people and getting an a feel for the course what so far i hear is very interesting. I look forward to continuing.

Smelly Liquid

Our first day of the project were was placed into groups, I was put with my partner and we was explained the tasks, we than got given one plain sheet of A4 paper and a large sheet of A3 paper, on the A3 piece of paper we were asked to create a mood board for our 'Smelly liquid'. On the white piece of paper we were asked to talk about our target audience, we were given a guide of common stereotypes for a target audience, but me and my partner decided create our own original target audience. We done this because we decided the colors, name and slogan before we chose our audience, this gave us a chance to gather ideas and then choose what sort of audience would like our product and then we added on to our product to make it match the target audience specifics.

My Target audience for my 'Smelly liquid' is aimed towards older men aged 60-70. Our target audience is aimed towards older men, particularly who have a high finance status and who are retired, who is also adventurous, see's himself as adventurous and who likes Europe or France in general.

Our 'Smelly liquid' is called 'Dijon', Dijon is named after a French Town what is known for is Artistic side, because of the location and our target audience our slogan is "We are all France". Our slogan is some sense engages with the buyer, "We are all France" engages the user by allowing them to feel connected with France, allowing them to feel a part of the community.

Our bottle for our aftershave has the colors of the French flag, this will give the buyer a chance to bring home 'part of France', the colors are not the only thing what will attract our target audience, the bottle itself has a very classic look to it, it is very bold and also has a nice little touch near the top with a metal rim and 6 crystals. The idea of this design is to show the idea of luxury and a manly look and feel to it.

For our advertising we are going to use a very modern theme, we have chose an image of a Man we think is suitable to add to our advertisement, the man looks wealthy and has a slick look, this will give an idea to the viewers who the 'Smelly Liquid' is meant for. The colors are not yet final, but we are thinking about using maybe black and white and the only color showing will be the color on the bottle, this will highlight the after shave and give more effect. One the advertisement we will include the title "Dijon" we will make this stand out by using a custom font and also make it bold, we will include our slogan what will be below the aftershave bottle, we will also make this Noticeable. We also may add a discount code or qr code to image the user. The last thing we will add to the advertisement will be a reason to buy it.

Planning -
For this assignment we as a class were all asked to create a movie scene from scratch, before that tho we had to do some planning to prepare our self for recording the real scene. To plan i created a Spider diagram and a storyboard. When i created my first spider diagram I was overwhelmed with tons of ideas, some which were to complicated and others what i felt were to simple, I came down to one idea about an action scene about a heist opening sequence and after some discussion and some more thinking i decided that this idea was not what i wanted to create. I had to take in mind that i have had no experience creating a scene before and I thought that the scene would not be as interesting as i imagined it to be, so i went ahead a thought about it some more until I came down to a final idea which i wrote down on paper and carried on to plan. I created a mind map and storyboard both giving detailed information on what i wanted to include in my scene. (Pictures of planning below).

For my mind map I added detail such as the location, genre, equipment, props, etc. making this mind map allowed me to write what I had already thought about and also let me add new ideas as I carried on planning.

For my storyboard I was able to sketch onto the paper what i visualised my scene to be like, while also including all the ideas I had added to my mind map.

My final planning piece was to go out and do some test shots for the scene i would be creating later. I used my mind map and storyboard as a guide to create the test shots, doing the test shots allowed me to get an idea of how I would record the real thing, I was able to try out different camera angles and was able to guide my actor into feeling and acting the emotion the character in the scene would be experiencing.

Editing -
for my editing I used Sony Vegas pro 13.0, I did originally plan on using adobe premiere but because of the lack of time before the deadline i decided to use the only editing software i had at hand, which was Sony Vegas.

When putting all my clips together i relisted that my work did not require as much editing as originally thought. There were 2 things what needed major editing, which was my end scene where my actor walks out of the park and sees himself. The other thing what required attention was the soundtrack I used as i had to extend it and slow the speed of it down to make sure every beat what created tension met the scene was was also meant to create tension, so that both together create the full effect and guides the audience watching on how to feel .

When creating the duplicate of my character i had to make sure the the camera was on a tripod, i than got my actor to do 2 scenes, one walking into the park and another walking out. Once I had opened both clips i had to crop both videos at a halfway point, I than moved one of the clips onto a higher layer and made sure they were timed so that when played it created the effect i wanted, in which it did.

What went well ? -
One thing what i thought went well was the duplicate effect, when the character sees himself walking into the park. The reason i thought this went well was because this was my first attempt at doing effects on sony vegas and once i had done it and the music was timed with when the character reacts the overall product looks incredibly real like. The split between the different videos are all lined up thanks to the tripod, using the tripod allowed us to record the 2 different acts in the same spot without moving the camera an inch, so when we rop both videos down nobody is able to see where the end of the crop is because both videos are aligned perfectly.

Test shot 1 -
In test shot 1 i decided to do a close up shot to start the scene. The close up of the feet gives the audience a moment of mystery to who or what is walking and where it is all taking place.

Test shot 2 -
Test shot 2 is a medium shot, in this shot the main character is revealed and the scene tory line starts to take place as the actor starts to realise that something is not right and pulls a confused face. This gives the audience a feeling of mystery as they do not know what is/going to happen, also by the actor showing his feeling on camera is can guide the viewer on how the actor is feeling at that moment and time.

Test shot 3 -
In shot 3 i decided to do a medium close up of when the actor runs away from the scene, this sort of acting is important for when the main storyline starts to take place because it gives the audience the effect of tension and allows them to understand what is going on, also the camera shot is gives the opportunity to show effect as in tho particular shot i have shown the swings swinging and the actor running away.

For my cooperate i had to create a video promoting the college. I was put into a group of 4, we went ahead and done some brief planning and went on to record around the college, starting from outside, going inside and walking through different course corridors etc. unfortunately when we came to review all the clips we had noticed the large amount of camera shaking a movement, although we had planning, I feel that it was all a bit rushed and in the future needs some more thought and maybe more use of the equipment such as a tripod or stabilizer. One one am I am surprised about is the audio during the interviews, I suggested using a mic, but once reviewing the interview clips i was surprised to fine it was very clear, although a Microphone will be used for future projects likes this.

Before beginning to edit I reviewed all the clips i had, and split named them and put them in order of the college (Like what order you would walk in etc.) By organizing them it allowed me to reduce my work time as i had a rough idea what clips i didn't want to use and what clips were suitable.

A lot of the clips were unstable, so I was i had to choose a editing style where i was able to chop the clips up to make the video up, without showing the full length of the clips.

Throughout video editing i used a variety of different tools and Photoshop came in handy when adding the text throughout the video. One tool i learned to use was the stabilizer tool, what allowed me to remove the intensity of the shaking, it allowed the video to run more smoother and made the overall edit look decent. Editing the Letters 'EFC' in at the intro was not as hard as i thought it was going to be but was still frustrating as I had to line it up in time to each 2 beats per seconds.

Editing the audio was a bit difficult, because i didn't want the music to play up to the vocal part, i had to remove it and edit in the beginning bit, while also making sure the music levels were the same, so it blended with the cut end of the audio track, once i had done it once, there was no need to it again as i was able to just duplicate the track.
