“A Football Girl” by Thatcher Heldring is about Tessa, a girl who has the desire to play football. But she’s stuck with a choice to make, either play football with her boyfriend Caleb or run cross-country with her friends Marina and Lexie. She decides to commit to football even though it would confuse some people. But she soon comes to the realization that football isn’t so easy when she starts her first day at camp. Her journey will be full of trails and tribulations.

What I love about this book is the idea of being an underdog and overcoming obstacles. It shows it’s ok to follow your dream even if society doesn’t agree. It gives thoughts hope and the drive to be inspired as Tessa goes on her journey. What I dislike about the book is how stereotypical it is. It gives the image that males are superior than females. The book basically says it’s ok to judge a book by it’s cover. Which means a lot to me because I know how it feels to be underestimated and doubted. The character that stands out to me the most was Caleb, because of how he dealt with playing football with his girlfriend. I also like the fact the he didn’t let the pressure from his friends affect their relationship. Overall the book was great!!

I recommend this book to whoever needs motivation. If your having a tough time figuring something out you should read this book. It shows that no dream is too far to reach. So if you need that, then this is the perfect book for you. Some reader might enjoy how the underdog beats the odds and comes out on top. This a great page turner for people who want to see the hero win.
