I'm 11 years old. It's picture day, so I am wearing my favorite hooded flannel -- I assure you these are the height of fashion for sixth graders in Michigan in 1993. 

I'm not angry. I just think smiling shows weakness... as does combing your hair. On second thought, I am angry. My teacher is making me be in a play that I really do not want to do. Not only am I in a play, but I am the main character. I have to rescue a mermaid, which a girl named Jessica is playing. I HATE attention, especially the attention of the entire school, which is who will see this play at lunch time in several weeks. Why do teachers make use do stuff like this we very much do not like doing? I do your math work, I do your social studies work, I read your books for English.
