In the city, Malin worked hard and eventually became a wealthy merchant. As his wealth grew, he married a woman from a high-status family and settled into a luxurious life. Malin forgot his humble beginnings and became embarrassed by his past.

Meanwhile, his mother, who was now old and frail, missed her son deeply. She decided to visit Malin in the city, hoping to reconnect with him and see the success he had achieved. When she arrived at his grand home, Malin and his wife treated her with coldness and disdain. Malin even denied that the old woman was his mother.

Heartbroken and furious, Malin’s mother cursed him, saying that he would turn to stone if he did not acknowledge her and make amends. Shortly after, as Malin and his family sailed back to their village, a storm struck their ship. The vessel was wrecked, and Malin Kundang was transformed into stone, fulfilling his mother’s curse.
